In the interest of political correctness; I need to point out that calling someone "old" is no longer acceptable. The preferred terminology these days is "Geezer".

I sort of took this threads meaning, as in why am I on punatalk?. Not sure if that's the direction, yet willing to give it a go.
One of the biggest or main reasons I am on this forum is I find myself less judgemental and willing to help. Less racial or prejudice from the start because my visual senses and stupidity don't get the first crack at forming an opinion of someone by what they look like or what they wear. We love this land we are from and want to share it responsibly with others who love it too. Since we have found or heard of Punatalk we have done away with The big evil T.V, also boxed up the computer and are now enjoying more family time. Also we have found that the only news we really care about is Puna's not Oahu's or D.C, let's face it too that Puna has had its share of news lately.
We have found This forum to be very educational and have allowed our older boys to read or write and form ideas or opinions on different past subjects. We enjoy offering ideas or suggestions yet we catch ourselves learning so much reading from the wealth of talent and knowledge that also shares this site.
Thank you for starting a positive thread here even if I misunderstood your meaning of why we are here?.

I did not take this as "ageist" -- Puna is burdened by lots of "old-style thinking" because all the political power is held by a handful who are "set in their ways" (regardless of age).

When you are asking for unity, community, and moving forward in a positive manner with respect, it's probably best to reflect those attributes all of the way through your request, start to finish.
For instance, do you think Michael Jackson's "We are the World" would have been as successful if he had ended it with a verse:
It's true
we'll make a better day
but then added that a bunch of old crackers (saltines so I don't get accused of being racist) are holding us back from this new way of thinking?

I've come to realize my punctuation, spelling and grammar is not as bad as thought.[

]. Be what you ask for.It's nice that some can see the "old" as not agist, but "old timers on the forum" would be a way to say that, not just "old." If he meant that, the edit button is right there.

I am in my young 90s and My husband in his young 80s.
We both will from time to time post in this forum.
We are both often corrected by the younger more hip and up to date generation of 50 and 60 somethings .
We both grow Gracefully Younger by the day.

In the spirit the post began in, yes, I would love to see more dialogue here where people build some sort of increased understanding as the conversation goes along. There was a moment I the Ebola topic where someone thanked someone else for helping them to a better understanding instead of snapping at the correction. I noticed it and thought good for you.
I don't much like being told to act like a Pollyanna "be positive" type about everything. I prefer analytic thinking that takes in the positive and the negative. But for others the positive mantra is their way. There's room for different approaches if we can tolerate them, but actively tearing each other down out of reflex and habit does not build an enjoyable community (for a lot of people).
