RE: What's up with Keaau traffic tonight? - birdmove - 10-31-2014 Would have been nice if they got the highway work done before the highway gets blocked by the lava flow. Anyone know if the new 4 lane paved section is going to have nice, wide paved shoulders on both sides? It doesn't look like it's going to be wide enough for 4 lanes and 2 wide shoulders. It was reported several weeks ago that the money borrowed for the park's first phase was spent for the emergency road work. It is going to be up to the citizens to keep account of where the money is being shuffled, and there is a lot more money and a lot more reshuffling ahead in the next year. The county council is starting to reprogramming funds but this council ends in December. They could work nights/weekends. RE: What's up with Keaau traffic tonight? - kalakoa - 11-01-2014 he county council is starting to reprogramming funds but this council ends in December. Highway 130 is a State road over which County has no authority, monetary or otherwise. RE: What's up with Keaau traffic tonight? - pahoated - 11-01-2014 quote:Look bub, it was the other guy asking about using the park funds for Hwy 130 road work, and it was being pointed out those funds have essentially been spent already on the emergency roads, Beach and CoC. Of course, Hwy 130 is a state highway. We went through that idiocy a couple years ago. As far as 130 and RR goes, the roundabout was a DOT project, that money has probably been redirected to RR. In both the park and roundabout cases, the contractors were provided their funding, they got a change in scope of work. The Hwy 130 shoulder work (only two lanes into town, wider shoulder on the way back from town). That is why it is called "shoulder work", it isn't "lane expansion". They are on schedule and within budget, the state isn't going to modify a huge contract at this point. Again, read the news, pay attention to the funding reprogramming. Quite frankly, it was probably a waste of time responding since you are sounding more and more like somebody that doesn't even live here. Nobody can drone on and on about development/non-development for years and still make the mistakes you do with locations. It is almost like you derive what you know around here from reading messages and the references they link. RE: What's up with Keaau traffic tonight? - kalakoa - 11-01-2014 the roundabout was a DOT project, that money has probably been redirected to RR Really? State is funding RR after County redirected the park resources *and* authorized another $20M bond? Perhaps I'm confused, but it seems like there's lots of extra dollars leaking out the side of this emergency, hopefully they'll be accounted for at some point. RE: What's up with Keaau traffic tonight? - steve1 - 11-01-2014 Doubtful! Bureaucrats may rise to just beyond their levels of incompetence but part of what allows them to rise is the ability to obfuscate. |
