RE: Act 111 - Wao nahele kane - 11-03-2014 If anyone is having difficulty in seeing how Act 111 and HRS 121.1 can be combined to draft those of us who are within the age requirements of HRS 121.1 let me know. I'd be more than happy to fill you in on the matter. RE: Act 111 - PunaMauka2 - 11-03-2014 does news of this new local law get my attention and raise concern? hell yeah it does. anything resembling the so-called Patriot Act deserves very close critical inspection. do i want to learn more about it from multiple sources? most definitely. especially from sources expert in questions of constitutionality and civil rights. but i also want to keep a level head about it, avoid possibly hastily getting carried away with excessive theories of conspiracy. also want to be aware that news of this law has the potential to be politically exploited in a roundabout way by slanting it's reporting in the interests of partisan gains, especially as elections are right here on the doorstep. RE: Act 111 - missydog1 - 11-05-2014 I was looking at the text of Act 111 and noted that emergency proclamations expire in 60 days. Kenoi proclaimed on Sept. 4th, so looks like it would have expired this Monday. Has he renewed it? If not, will he? I stopped in Kurtistown last night at the 7-11 above J Hara, and first thing I saw was a group of National Guard personnel. Nothing alarming, just buying stuff at the store, but it was odd seeing them as part of the new landscape and quite far from Pahoa. Kathy RE: Act 111 - kalakoa - 03-04-2015 Extended through 12/31/2015. I feel safer already. http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/local-news/lava-emergency-proclamation-extended RE: Act 111 - Guest - 03-04-2015 This extension probably means Pahoa and other area schools won't be getting their kids back before then? The longer this plays out the harder it is on all the keiki yet again. This will be our oldest sons first season without sports, he's bummed out. He usually runs track, we think the track team was cancelled this year. Without many options for the student athletes to strive for excellence how are some to stress the importance of staying in school, or to do well or no play? We need more scholarships offered in this area hit so hard by these changes, to encourage the keiki left behind the imaginary lava line. Jmo. RE: Act 111 - ironyak - 03-05-2015 This extension goes along with the recent changes to FEMA funding allowi g for clearing and restoration work to be reimbursed. Whether or not this factors into DOE decisions is unclear. Probably have to wait till the summer and see what the lava does until then. RE: Act 111 - Obie - 03-05-2015 quote: This was posted on Jan 20th: SPRING SEASON SPORTS BEGIN MARCH-MAY High School Students Interested in participating in any of the sports listed below please go to the main office to sign up. Current physicals will be needed to participate. Forms are also available at the main office. Baseball B/G Tennis B/G Track Boy's Volleyball RE: Act 111 - Guest - 03-09-2015 Still no word about the boys and girls track teams, was the season cancelled due to lava? Also was hoping to have my oldest son take part in drivers ed. Not sure why this is no longer available to take in pahoa high? Does the DMV in pahoa offer a class for students wanting to learn how to drive? These new lava laws really have lasting affects on our keiki. RE: Act 111 - rainyjim - 03-09-2015 I hate to say this because it may be interpreted as callous, which is not my intention, but have you considered perhaps the decision of parents to raise their children so near an active volcano may be the culprit rather than the volcano itself? RE: Act 111 - pahoated - 03-09-2015 This is the third of the most recent flows, K1 and K2 with names, June 27 still going. The first eruption flows were unnoticed by 99% of the south Puna population. When they were pointed out, the reaction was poo-poo, they were so far away. The bigger worry was that Poihiki was going to be turned into the next Waikiki and the mad rush to grab up "cheap" lots. Then, the June 27 flow started getting further down slope. The majority reaction was still poo-poo, too far away. The laws are there to protect this population from itself, and no, they haven't proven they are competent to do that themselves. Some people here claim to have all this experience with Hawaii for some time, then exhibit the reactions of a malihini. "Mahalo nui Pele, 'ae noho ia moku 'aina" - kakahiaka oli |
