RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - bluesboy - 01-05-2015 I'm in Mtn view. 4-1 and 4-2 are out. 13-1 and 13-2 are choppy. All other channels are okay. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - MarkP - 01-05-2015 In a way that's a relief. I thought I had done something to my TV because of how 13-1 and 13-2 were coming in. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - macuu222 - 01-06-2015 Any current episodes on ABC that you missed can be seen free via your internet connection or smart TV approximately 1 week after airing. Or you can see it right away on your smart TV for $1.99 RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - Kenney - 01-06-2015 I'm just guessing here, but it appears as if you all have outdoor (radio shack) antennas like we do. We haven't gotten "the 4's" since the wind started. My kids tell me that people with cable are getting it fine. 13-2 comes in on 45 usually. The broadcast companies don't care if us rugged people without pay tv get any reception. We lived with a coat hanger and only one channel for years, so, oh well. It will probably come back on eventually. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - macuu222 - 01-06-2015 I believe the "cable" local stations come direct from Honolulu. The free "over the air" local stations are rebroadcast here via local towers. Probably one is down and I'm sure people using over the air antennas in Hilo are having the same problem. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - H22 - 01-06-2015 If a TV station is or expects to be off for more than 10 days, they need to file a notification with the FCC. I haven't seen anything filed as of yet, so hopefully that means Channel 4.1/4.2 will be back soon. Kenney, unfortunately the cable penetration rate is quite high in the densely populated parts of the state, so OTA probably isn't a priority for many of the stations. Puna has grown faster than the infrastructure, so there's a higher percentage of OTA households here. However OTA TV is the only traditional video medium growing right now, and has an increasing impact on the ratings-- so broadcasters are starting to pay more attention to it. It looks like the Honolulu market will be one of the last markets to bend to the OTA pressure. Some markets are approaching 30% OTA. The average is around 15% OTA. Honolulu market (a/k/a The State of Hawai`i) was under 10% with the last batch of numbers I saw. We're still building the low power digital TV station in Mountain View-- We'll be OTA only, so we'll care :-) RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - terracore - 01-06-2015 Update: 4.1/4.2 still offline in Orchidland. Thanks H22, as usual you are the SME (subject matter expert) in this matter. I am interested in hearing more about your TV station in Mt. View, if you care to type about it. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - Kenney - 01-07-2015 I'm wished for a local station for a long time too! All the news here is so Oahu centric. I emailed one of the stations once to complain that the weather people always stand in front of the B.I. I think it was Guy Hagi who told me they really didn't care about the BI because 90+% of their viewers (and sponsors) were in Oahu. It doesn't really matter (to me) as much these days because we can get just about all information on the cell phone. It's cheaper than pay TV too. (not that we have that option in my part of HPP) RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - bluesboy - 01-07-2015 13-1 & 13-2 are not breaking up anymore. 4-1 & 4-2 still out. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-07-2015 13.1 & 13.2 are pretty inconsistent for me in HPP. Sometimes the picture is perfect, on other days it breaks up intermittently. I had a theory that it was tree branches in the wind, so trimmed everything in a direct line to Hilo Hawaiian Hotel (transmitter is on their roof) at least in my yard, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Then I thought it was heavy rain, but there's not regularly bad reception on rainy days vs. dependably good reception on clear days. Well, with the Packers in the playoffs I sprung for a bigger antenna, still not perfect, but much better. And if the signal breaks up I'll usually catch the action on the instant replay. Rodgers back to pass, Jordy Nelson is w--i--d--e open in the end zone! Touchdown! Packers! |
