RE: The Meaning of Life - ironyak - 03-08-2015 I think the designated hitter rule degrades the game, although it may extend the career of some players. RE: The Meaning of Life - TomK - 03-08-2015 Not so much about the meaning of life, more of a philosophy. Be nice to people but do not suffer fools. They have the power to not only make your life miserable, but everyone else's as well. Enjoy what this planet gives you. Be in awe of what it and the rest of the universe are and do your best to understand how lucky you are to be alive to see such wonder. Feel fortunate to live in an era of exploration and a time we are starting to understand how the universe and our world works as well as how things used to be. Above all, encourage your children to share in this enthusiasm and if you are successful, the human race might have a long future. Please make a clear connection between the meaning of life and Hawaii, or I fear snorkle might be banished to that horrible place Rob sends Punaweb outlaws. If you love snorkle, you won't tell Rob... RE: The Meaning of Life - opihikao - 03-09-2015 So many wise words here; mahalo. Punafish, you raise a good point, and in order to preserve the "keep it Hawai'i", the meaning of our life here is partially encompassed in the following. At the risk of utilizing an already overused word (much like "pono"), it is the essence of our lives as Hawaiians, raised in Puna (specifically Opihikao, Pohoiki, Kaimu, Kapa'ahu, and beyond). "A" is for Aloha", meaning greetings and welcome with love. " L" is for Launa" meanings friendly...a feeling from the heart. " O" is for 'Ololi", meaning pleasure...of being helpful and kind. " H" is for "hauoli", meaning happy...the happiness of sharing. " A " is for "Akahi", meaning humble...in giving and serving. "Alo" - meaning "before the divine creator" "Ha" - meaning "breath of life" (*Note: Another interpretation that fits the "Meaning of Life") AKAHAI E NA HAWAI'I Kindness to be expressed with Tenderness LOKAHI A KULIKE Unity to be expressed with Harmony 'OLU 'OLU KA MANA'O Pleasant are your Thoughts HA'AHA'A KOU KULANA Humility to be expressed with Modesty AHONUI A LANAKILA Patience to be expressed with Perseverance The word "pono" was hardly ever spoken in our home, it was lived. Basics. Our kupuna brought us up with the "meaning of life" which today, we hold dear. Should we be able to share with each other our teachings, and meld our cultures and differences together, it will be a better tomorrow for our issues. Mo'opuna are flourishing in Puna today, as we did. Albeit a different world, the basics are still here. In Puna. "The meaning of life". Great topic, snorkel, for reflection, adjustment, and pondering. Thinking about how to apply kupuna teaching to the challenges we face today, in order to leave a better place for our keiki and mo'opuna. Enjoy the evening all, moreso, enjoy "life". JMO.
