Thanks, Tink. I'm wondering if the LAX terminals will still have internet access if they've been turned into rubble. That also means I might have a little trouble with the connecting flight but will deal with that at the time.

Do you mean clotted cream? That's from the west coast of England and I don't actually like it. Pam does, though!

Ask any geologist - you can't accurately predict earthquakes. Take the Hilina Slump for example, it *might* cause a massive earthquake and tsunami some time in the next 100,000 years. That doesn't stop me from saying it will happen June 28th 2097 at 9:02 pm, but probably I'd be wrong more than 50 billion times before getting it right.

Just call me Mike

I think that was it, Tom. You had mentioned that Safeway was out of it a long while back. If the earthquake does hit, I believe from your experience gazing at the heavens for a living you would know the trajectory of a communications satellite orbiting our big rock and somehow fabricate a receiver dish to keep communication going to save the world, but somehow me thinks if you are with Pam you will not be calling up work to say you were delayed!
On the subject, scientists have been trying to predict earthquakes for almost as long as they have rattled this earth, with not much success. Parkfield, Ca. Seems to be the Ca "epicenter" for the research, and the region has had an increase in activity, so maybe this is where "the crazy Dutchman" is gathering his Intel.
Rode out the Loma Prieta while under the house replacing the foundation, don't remember my hands or legs touching ground when I flew out from under it, and immediately got called to work in assessing the damage. Results were numbing, to say the least, and all the Building Codes were revised to make structures even more earthquake "resistant".
The one fault that is really late in prediction is the one that runs up the East side of SF bay, and to keep somewhat back on track is if it lets go, I hope it is inland enough not to send a tsunami westward, or Hilo might become a big beach, and back to work I go.

FYI: Tokyo, Japan

(*Snipped - More at link)

A strong earthquake rattled the Japanese capital of Tokyo and its suburbs Monday, with a preliminary magnitude reading of 5.6, shaking buildings and temporarily stopping trains.

""Some guy in the netherlands is predicting a 9+ on West Coast on May 28th at around 2:30 PDT (????)."

I'm flying to the west coast on the 29th so will provide a disaster update if necessary.
"

Do I still need to send the disaster update tomorrow?

Yes, Sir, please...[Smile]

Oh, could you also give Pam our fondest aloha, and play her a song from over here, Sir. Most appropriate for you both, as you report into PW:

Featuring, the one and only, Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, with Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole:

Ke Aloha:

Will do, Opihikao! Both Pam and I love Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's songs and music, so thanks for sharing. I haven't heard that one before, very beautiful.

RE: Earthquakes - No Tsunami Warning - PaulW - 05-29-2015

7.8 near Japan today. No tsunami.

"The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said: "There is no tsunami threat because the earthquake is located too deep inside the earth.""
