RE: hot dry spell - TomK - 06-29-2015 Jon, Pam and I were in Portland a few weeks ago and the temperatures were in the 90s. I thought it was supposed to be relatively cool there in June! These guys are getting a good start at it; http://www.teen.com/2013/06/02/im-bored/cuteness-report/animals-taking-a-bath-beating-heat/#1 I like the baby hippo and the Basset hound the best. Just call me Mike RE: hot dry spell - Ino - 07-01-2015 Possible tropical storm development near Hawaii the next couple of weeks; http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/ghazards/ Not expecting anything major but a glancing blow from a tropical depression or storm is probably likely for the Big Island in about a week. Probably will get the remains of a tropical storm here around July 8th; http://www.stormsurfing.com/cgi/display_alt.cgi?a=nepac_precip As the waters warm the Hurricane/Tropical storm season will peak here in Aug./Sept. We do have much above normal SST especially near Hilo; https://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/hawaii.html Hurricane's need 27 degree C or higher water and we're not quite there yet; http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/contour/hawaii.fc.gif More detailed info here; http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/MJO/mjoupdate.pdf Not too worrisome at this point but something to keep an eye on. RE: hot dry spell - ericlp - 07-01-2015 will be interesting to see what that temperature map looks like at the end of august.
