RE: Pesticides in paradise: Hawaii's spike in bir - dakine - 08-25-2015 with no proof whatsoever.. Unless you are willing to drink a glass full of whatever it is that they are spraying the no proof whatsoever argument is total BS. Atrazine and Paraquat are horror stories. Paraquat alone is a horrible horrible chemical that can not be eliminated by the human body. Any amount of it is harmful. It destroys lung tissue. I spent years (1970s and '80s) fighting to get the State to at least prevent it's use near water. It used to be very popular in Waipio Valley because it is very effective with Honohono. But then it is also the poison of choice for those that kill loose dogs. It's horrible, and to think that somebody, in the name of making a profit, would cause mist of this stuff to waft through a community is, as I said, criminal. Criminal on the level of rape, murder. And those that perpetrate this crime on us should be dealt with accordingly. imo of course! RE: Pesticides in paradise: Hawaii's spike in bir - kalakoa - 08-25-2015 From the article: In Kauai, chemical companies Dow, BASF, Syngenta and DuPont spray 17 times more pesticide per acre (mostly herbicides, along with insecticides and fungicides) than on ordinary cornfields in the US mainland About a fourth of the total are called Restricted Use Pesticides because of their harmfulness. Just in Kauai, 18 tons - mostly atrazine, paraquat (both banned in Europe) and chlorpyrifos - were applied in 2012. The chemical companies that grow the corn in land previously used for sugar refuse to disclose with any precision which chemicals they use, where and in what amounts, but they insist the pesticides are safe Think about that for a moment: pesticides banned by other countries, applied at a much higher rate than anywhere else, with the usual "trust us -- it's safe". ... the town's main hospital, which was run until recently by Dow AgroSciences' former chief lobbyist in Honolulu. The hospital had less-than-zero incentive to investigate any claims that pesticide use might be a problem. GEE I WONDER WHY THERE'S NO STATISTICAL EVIDENCE. RE: Pesticides in paradise: Hawaii's spike in bir - PaulW - 08-25-2015 "Any amount of it is harmful." This statement shows that you have very little understanding of science. RE: Pesticides in paradise: Hawaii's spike in bir - dakine - 08-25-2015 Actual PaulW, I have reams of science on Paraquat, as I said I lobbied against it's use with the State of Hawaii Dept. of Ag. for years. Many years ago. The problem with Paraquat is that our body can not eliminate it. There are studies going back as far as the 1980s where farm workers have had major organ failure because of exposure to the spray. When I say any amount is harmful I am saying that even in very small amounts it is degrading the quality of, killing, organ tissue, and that to me is harmful. Here's some facts from the CDC: http://emergency.cdc.gov/agent/paraquat/basics/facts.asp So tell me PaulW, how much would YOU consume? How much is safe? How much would you give your mother? Your children? For real brah, if you aint willing to drink it why in the world would you defend it's use without serious reservations? Why? Only children think in such simple terms. RE: Pesticides in paradise: Hawaii's spike in bir - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-25-2015 The measure for whether a pesticide is suitable for use isn't based on how willing I am to drink it. Only children think in such simple terms. Everything has a dilution ratio, an application rate, etc. I knew a man who drank so much powdered Lipton Lemon Tea, he lost all of his teeth. The tea was safe to drink, but not 20 glasses a day which coated his teeth in a constant bath of acidic tea and lemon. A "glass" of roundup when properly applied might be sprayed across 1000 sq ft, far different than the size of a human stomach. Anyway, it's a hot afternoon, and for some reason I'm getting kinda thirsty now... RE: Pesticides in paradise: Hawaii's spike in bir - dakine - 08-25-2015 Only children think in such simple terms.
