RE: first LFA sting in my eye - kimo wires - 11-25-2015 Siesta needs only a 4 hours of good weather to work , some farmers told me. The product recommends 12 hours. But If you put it under eaves and areas that stay dry it works longer. I heard thru the Coconut wireless that the fire ant guy uses it. Don't wanna mention any company names here. Recommendations are to alternate- Siesta, wait 3 weeks, then Amdro-wait 3 weeks. Siesta interrupts the feeding cycle. It doesn't kill them outright. Ants go to sleep and starve to death along with the Queen. Then the next batch of eggs hatch and they eat the Amdro and die. RE: first LFA sting in my eye - Obie - 11-25-2015 You will have to poison these little bastards for the rest of your life. You could pay me to have my dna cloned and then we could develop an antidote for fire ant bites ! It's hopeless! RE: first LFA sting in my eye - beejee - 11-25-2015 Obie: It was meant as a compliment. I think it demonstrates the resiliency of life. There is hope!! My sympathy for your plight, I didn't mean to belittle the issue. Edited: added sympathy RE: first LFA sting in my eye - DoryGray - 11-25-2015 Benedryl & ice always works for me. It's worth the $40 to the ant guy to keep my property fire ant free. RE: first LFA sting in my eye - EightFingers - 11-25-2015 Scary being bitten in the eye. Only good thing is the eye is the fastest healing of all body parts. I've been bitten so often, I don't really pay much attention to it. Itches a few hours then stops. Dang things really love to live on banana plants! RE: first LFA sting in my eye - bystander - 11-25-2015 I tried the Siesta. At first it worked great. The LFAs were really attracted to it. I noticed some even tried to carry bits of it away. After using it a few weeks, the ants don't seem as interested in it just like the Amdro. I need to entice them with peanut butter. This makes me wonder if they have some sort of intelligence. Maybe they figured out it's poison. RE: first LFA sting in my eye - birdmove - 11-25-2015 We finally had KFA (Kill Fire Ants) come over, and they just did the second treatment. Our lower/front yard has transformed. My wife always seemd to get bit when working outside there, till a little while after the first treatment. We've been working down there after, and no bites. I took out about a 25' Ohia, and cut it all up etc, and no bites. The wife did get bit while working in the back yard in a corner that is pretty dense. The ant man hit that area extra heavy for the second treatment. We are going to clear that area out, and he said maybe wait till after the third treatment. He uses Tango. The bites don't bother me as much as my wife. They are irritating for maybe 30-45 minutes. Hateful little insects!! Jon in Keaau/HPP RE: first LFA sting in my eye - dmbwest - 11-25-2015 Hi Bird ... Just wondering.... What have you noticed in terms of mosquitoes ? aloha, pog RE: first LFA sting in my eye - Guest - 11-26-2015 Wow terracore, what an awful experience. I have seen a couple other friends who had the same experience as you recently, they both went to the urgent clinic. I get bit up by these LFA at least five days a week, it hasn't gotten any better over time. Many of my friends and I are now having to raise our hourly rates because of these LFA. The LFA will nest anywhere, I am always cleaning them out of my Mowers and weed eaters. One of the worst jobs outdoors is having to machete canegrass or elephant grass, now with the LFA its just miserable. Never cared to use roundup poison much before this LFA invasion, now I recommend it for some folks outdoor work to avoid being bit up. Terracore, hope your feeling better by now, happy Thanksgiving. P.S. I have heard that some cortazone creams like clabetasol ointment can relieve the burn from the LFA bites. RE: first LFA sting in my eye - MattKarma - 11-26-2015 quote:+1 on that, pog. In Florida & Texas I found that aggressively flushing affected area immediately with water reduced or eliminated effects of 'bite', which is mostly chemical not physical. |
