A tiny fraction of the discontent should not be allowed to make such profound changes in our society, unless there is a consensus among all those who live here.

Were residents of the Big Island asked whether Oahu should be allowed to build rail transit? No, but all State residents will end up paying for it -- either with our taxes, or when we're forced to suffer massive solar/geothermal projects to power it.

Geography equates to race in creating these divisions?

...or is it just yet another opportunity to get in another anti-government pitch.

Geography equates to race in creating these divisions?

From the fine article:

A group of Native Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians is challenging the election, arguing Hawaii residents who don't have Native Hawaiian ancestry are being excluded from the vote.

Including all Hawaii residents in the vote, regardless of ancestry, creates a purely geographical distinction.

Ah, yet another opportunity to get in another anti-government pitch.

I appreciate Kalakoa's posts/perspective and certainly don't see it as "anti-government". I see it more as a constant reminder of the dysfunctional government/programs we have in Hawaii and reminders of the general inequities that exist across the islands specifically in regard to "State" funds.

Nah, its just broken record whining, thread infection with nothing else offered as a cure ...

"Were residents of the Big Island asked whether Oahu should be allowed to build rail transit? No, but all State residents will end up paying for it"

It's being paid for by a 1/2 percent surcharge on the GET tax on Oahu.

If you live on Oahu, travel to Oahu, or buy something that is produced on Oahu you will contribute but Ken lives in Oakland.
