RE: Hele -On Bus - VancouverIslander - 12-15-2015

The price is right for the bus, although the schedule and stops available leaves something to be desired. I've come in on a night flight to Kona once, crashed for a few hours on a bench and then hiked up the hill on Kaiminani to 180 at the Matsuyama Market. Sure, it's a long hike to catch a bus, but I'm not gonna get gouged by taxis.

Just call me Mike

Better than nothing, the Hawaiian standard. In a pinch its okay but if you use the Hele On to commute you will end up unemployed.

if you use the Hele On to commute you will end up unemployed

I believe that is exactly the point.

They definitely go to the Hilo Airport. They have an official bus stop sign and everything. While I don't know what the schedule is, I have seen them there many times recently.

Yep, passed a Hele-On bus leaving the airport around 4pm today.

HeleOn does go to both airports, and for Hilo, it is pretty convenient on the Keaukaha route, stopping Monday through Saturday at 8, 9:20, 10:40, 12, 1:20, 2:40. 4 and 5:20 (right after the Prince Kuhio Plaza stop:

from Pahala & S Kona, there is one stop M-S at 8:35 & 8:30 and 4:35 from the S. Kohala & Waikoloa resort areas
http://www.heleonbus.org/schedules-and-maps/pahala-south-kohala-resorts

and the IntraKona bus stops not too far away a few times a day (any of the HCCPalamanui or Lokahi busses can stop near the Airport entrance if you are there & they know you are requesting a stop (you can always call, ya know!))

As does the Kona to Hilo bus stop at HCCPalamanui stop at 7:05

Granted this is not as convenient as some would want, but at the most it is $2/person & $1/luggage, large bag or a bike...
Too bad some people think that is "They don't go to either airport"

RE: Hele -On Bus - Gus - 12-16-2015

I took it from Prince Kuhio Plaza to Kona. The bus was pretty nice and they give you a 5 minute bathroom break half way. It was 2 bucks and no charge for my suitcase. The bad news was it dropped me off at the mall in Kona, and a taxi to the airport was 20 bucks. Other cities build mass transit to their airports, and we try our best to keep mass transit away.
