RE: Mynah birds as pets... - gtill - 03-16-2008 Common Mynahs, found out of the nest before feathering, and raised by hand will make a neat pet, at the cost of months of daily care! And they do talk without any tongue cutting! They speak whatever they hear, english and philipino! The ones I've seen have been at work, and specialize in profanity! I've heard the illeagl rumor, I'd ignore it, but they require a lot of time! RE: Mynah birds as pets... - kani-lehua - 03-16-2008 i think it is illegal to import mynah birds. there used to be one a long time ago near the ewa beach park. it used to say, "hello joe." my brother's african grey, used to mimic everything, too. that darn nextel sound, coughing, when the phone would ring, he'd say "hello". gosh all kinds of stuff. oh. and he did swear. they pick up everything.[:0] malia paha o lohe aku perhaps they will hear RE: Mynah birds as pets... - Guest - 03-16-2008 Owning A Mynah Bird ....In searching for a mynah in pet shops today, you will be told that you cannot get a mynah because they have been banned from being imported and are impossible to get. Well, most U.S. pet shop owners are not aware that there are mynahs being domestically bred.... ------- A.R.A.S. Acceptance Respect Affection and Support Bob Trask RE: Mynah birds as pets... - gtill - 03-16-2008 The ones I'm talking to are the noisy, crazy flying street gang mynahs! Not pet shop panties! They actually tame down to mellow, but will leave, and 50/50 he'll come back! RE: Mynah birds as pets... - Kahunascott - 03-16-2008 quote:Actually Lucy the local girl is 55 years old now. So what I meant to say (thanks for helping me) is that when she was a young girl her father raised them for years on the BI. As a Hawaiian family they raised and sold the birds after surgery. Some local customs may seem irresponsible to you but this was a way of life an income for their family, and it didn’t kill them. This isn’t a myth but a part of their life. And what I meant to say was that surgery was performed in their mouth or throat to make them speak better. And what I meant to say is that cutting their tongue out was what the father called it. So with that said, I would rather tell you the truth of their way of life and what she passed down to me. That’s what I meant to say.[|)] "Many dreams come true and some have silver linings, I look for my dreams and a pocket full of gold" Led Zeppelin RE: Mynah birds as pets... - kani-lehua - 03-17-2008 quote: sorry, but i disagree. this is not a hawaiian custom and mynahs are not "na manu kama'aina". they were introduced. malia paha o lohe aku perhaps they will hear |
