RE: Is it real or just a myth? - Kenney - 03-10-2016 Just to be clear, HPV is a Sexually Transmitted Disease. I can only imagine the difficulty a MD and office staff would have attempting to contain their laughter if a patient told them they'd gotten HPV from a frog/toad. RE: Is it real or just a myth? - oink - 03-10-2016 I used to burn mine off with incense sticks. I never tried the OTC freeze off stuff but if it's like what the dermatologists use it should be good. RE: Is it real or just a myth? - Kenney - 03-11-2016 There is a wealth of information available to any parent who wants to be appraised of the facts regarding STD's at Hawaii Island AIDS Foundation , 982-8800. The RN STD Prevention Educator, Rachel , is available to answer questions and change "gullible" to informed. They are also available to do presentations in schools with an invitation. RE: Is it real or just a myth? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-11-2016 Excellent, Kenney. Education is the answer to fearful ignorance. Who'd a thunk it! I wouldn't want to hijack this thread, but PM2's comment did get me thinking. I wonder if something like education would work for other areas of our lives besides health and medical? For instance, determining the source of volcanic gas emissions? The true purpose of observatories? Local political activities? I don't think Fearful Ignorance has worked very well up until this point, why not try something new? "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." -Annie Dillard RE: Is it real or just a myth? - Guest - 03-11-2016 If all hpv viruses are only spread by sexual transmission then that leaves me a Little confused as to how some kids could carry many warts before they are even sexually active?. http://www.todaysparent.com/family/family-health/how-to-treat-kids-warts/ P.S. Mahalo again for all the suggestions, Pog yours hit home. RE: Is it real or just a myth? - dmbwest - 03-11-2016 Kenny and others might want to try a little education themselves as per the different strains of HPV. Starting here: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hpv-infection/basics/causes/con-20030343 RE: Is it real or just a myth? - Kenney - 03-11-2016 Good question Gypsy69. I just checked my fav site for medical info, Mayo Clinic. Turns out there are over 100 types of HPV virus. Most are harmless. They can be passed my touch but are not life threatening. The specific strain of concern on this thread as I understand, is the one that can cause cervical cancer. That one is spread sexually. RE: Is it real or just a myth? - Kenney - 03-11-2016 You were too fast for me Pog. Great info! BTW, I am a retired STD prevention Educator. |
