Tink, if temp or humidity changes caused it, wouldn't it have easily occurred near one of the many vents in the area? Why try to blame PGV instead of the volcano itself?

Why try to blame PGV instead of the volcano itself?

The volcano doesn't have any money?

RE: the ohia "emergency" - Tink - 05-26-2016

Not trying to blame anybody. Just trying to understand the "habitat" of the spore to maybe have a lead on its control/eradication, if there is one. Maybe time to put a contest to the schools?

Are you Gypsy in disguise?

In my science one does not set boundaries, but rather explore and rule out.

Well you can rule that one out, look on a map.

Genetic mutation caused by radiation, check.

No radiation, double check. Never did hear back from the people who rushed out to buy a geiger counter.

No matter the original source or location the fight is on to protect this most important tree! Check out this organization: http://kupuhawaii.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/EIP-Chris-Wong-Million-Ohia-Initiative.pdf

there is also a facebook page for those who do that:

Here is an article that helps explain the second Ohia killing fungus that has been identified.

http://wowway.net/news/read/category/State/article/the_honolulu_staradv-second_strain_of_fungus_fingered_in_rapid_ohia_dea-tca

So now that we know most of lower puna's soil has been contaminated by these two fungi. What could the soils be treated with to help rid it of these new killing fungi's?

Since These fungi's have obviously chose to kill off many of puna's sensitive Ohia's FIRST. What other crops or trees here in Puna soils could eventually fall victim or host these killing fungi in the coming years or decades?

This recent article provides some info on the Ohia wilt spread. Possibly over 50% or more of the big islands Ohia have been infected or died from the ROD.

The article really ended grim or gloomy.
