RE: Genki Buffet - macuu222 - 06-26-2016 They need to expand the parking lot before they do anything. I always bypass that place and head to Hilo when eating out. Its always packed in the early evenings. RE: Genki Buffet - alaskyn66 - 06-26-2016 quote: Something in hilo that is well established should open another one in that spot... I can think of a couple... that seem to have good business. ..What would King Kamehameha do.. RE: Genki Buffet - jrw - 06-26-2016 How about something that serves a decent breakfast? Where you can eat with silverware and real plates. jrw RE: Genki Buffet - terracore - 06-26-2016 I'm thinking something along the lines of a Kaleo's-type place. With a different menu of course, and without Kaleo's dive in quality and service over the last year or so. RE: Genki Buffet - shockwave rider - 06-26-2016 There is now a Genki Ramen in the Hilo strip mall on Puainako, I wonder if they are related? RE: Genki Buffet - DTisme - 06-26-2016 I would like a nice seafood restaurant, with fresh seafood. RE: Genki Buffet - Carey - 06-26-2016 Legends was also in that spot, along with a few others... One of the interesting things is most of the bar restaurants there only closed because of external factors... including not getting along with the property management, liquor license problems, & co-owner problems...but everyone of the ones with bars did not close do to lack of $$ coming in... that I know of.... WAAYY be fore that mall ever existed, on the Farmers market side, Keaau had what I have heard was a killer steak & seafood restaurant...even some old friend in Waimea & Kona remember coming to Keaau for that restaurant... I am pretty sure if you had a consistently good steak & seafood restaurant with good staff, that would probably be a great place for it (but the consistently good food & staff is a problem for almost every venue I know of here... so... !) As to breakfast -though I would love to have a good breakfast spot- I am afraid that that space is most likely WAAY too pricey for most mom n pop type venues (I remember when the tiny Hiros Place was in the Piza Hut spot...they had breakfast & lunch...and did not stay with the rent....) and Genki took out the bar, which seems like it was the main money maker for past venues there.... soo.... I have a funny feeling that this is either a venture set up to loose money (I still wonder about utilizing the name they have chosen & not really having anything that is typically "Japanese".... & already seen a few tourists that seem to be confused about that....).... or it probably will have a tough time making it through the lease period they signed p for... OR they change their business model really quick & try to recoup the indifferent - negative attitudes they have already created (a very tough thing for any new business to overcome!) RE: Genki Buffet - pam jones - 06-26-2016 The last two times I went to Lemongrass the same woman who was sitting at a table chopping the vegetables got up to take peoples money and no gloves or washing of her hands. I was so grossed out I vowed to never go back! [:p] RE: Genki Buffet - leilanidude - 06-26-2016 pam - you have noticed that is so prevalent here - a complete lack of knowledge of safe food handling practices. This is where a mandatory class for all new employees of restaurants could help in preventing food poisoning. edit-typo RE: Genki Buffet - alaskyn66 - 06-26-2016 Not just here.. have you ever watched Gordon Ramsey shows... nobody wears gloves.. watch people in the background.. you will see people stick their fingers in just about every hole in their face.. at one time or another. Three Michelin star chief here. .. I'd rather eat out of my dogs dish than eat out. ..What would King Kamehameha do.. |
