RE: Lava delta collapses, falls into ocean - TomK - 01-03-2017 According to this West Hawaii Today article, some people are very lucky to be alive today: http://www.westhawaiitoday.com/news/volcano-update/delta-collapse-temporarily-closes-lava-viewing "Although park rangers had temporarily closed the Kamokuna lava viewing area, five visitors ducked beneath the white rope closure line and made a beeline for the coastal cliffs around 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Eruption Crew Ranger Travis Delimont and a co-worker had to chase after them before they turned around. Within 15 minutes, the section of cliff where the visitors were standing crashed into the ocean." RE: Lava delta collapses, falls into ocean - Amrita - 01-03-2017 Anybody know if the 5 who crossed the white ribbon got more than an admonition? No where can I find that they got fined or etc. RE: Lava delta collapses, falls into ocean - TomK - 01-03-2017 If the article is accurate, I'd be more interested to see if Delimont and co-worker get rewarded for putting their own lives at risk to save others. I would be surprised to learn if those that went under the wire didn't get their own personal admonition from those two. |
