RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - leilanidude - 02-01-2017 I simply cannot believe they think the cabins are going to make a profit. How many people will they hire for maintenance/cleaning and "management", all of course with the over-the-top county benefit package and pension? RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - HI_Someday - 02-01-2017 We went over Saddle in November and were lucky the bathrooms were there as we both were in dire need. What if they weren't? It's easier to make due as a guy... For women? A bit more awkward. :-0 I wonder where the military camp down the road gets their water? Is there a pipeline coming up from Hilo? Wells? RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - geochem - 02-02-2017 The military trucks in their water - around 10 cents a gallon... RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - alaskyn66 - 02-02-2017 Perhaps there is a business opportunity here.. set up a water tanker with some porta crappers..along the highway somewhere... RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - randomq - 02-02-2017 All part of the county's plan... Close the restrooms, then ticket everyone who pees next to the road, and use the proceeds to pay for all the overtime! RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - mac nut - 02-02-2017 big island video news reports it was re-opened today RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - tada - 02-02-2017 When I read an article about water restrictions in California I gave them my advice which was to shut off the water to the toilet and dig an outhouse in the backyard. Which generated all kind negative comments about groundwater contamination and ag subsidies and I have to admit they have a good point but if you flush the toilet you part of the problem. RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - alaskyn66 - 02-03-2017 Rural alaska uses a lot of outhouses. I've never heard of a disease outbreak from contaminated water anywhere. Meanwhile here in Hawaii there is Leptospira bacteria, Toxoplasma gondii, enterococcus... to name a few. I think it's a little late to worry about contamination. RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - kalakoa - 02-03-2017 Yes, re-opened: http://www.westhawaiitoday.com/news/local-news/mauna-kea-rec-area-reopens Brittany Kaleohano said the water tanks at the recreation area were empty. She said they weren't sure why they were empty. She added that they were able to get the tanks filled though and reopen the park. Kaleohano said she didn't know what, if any, cost was involved. Translation: the $11.6M "upgrade" now includes a new (and apparently unknown) recurring cost for trucked water. RE: no Mauna Kea Park for you - randomq - 02-03-2017 How did they qualify for a certificate of occupancy with no water source? Hmmm... |
