RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - terracore - 10-06-2017 So since posting this, every time I went into the Hilo Home Depot I've been trying to get this chainsaw (the one they supposedly stock with the battery/charger bundle). They've never had it, even though the online information states that they definitely do. My experiences have been beyond frustrating- ranging from the first weak gazelle I found near the paint section who told me that if it wasn't on the shelf, they didn't have any. I showed him on my phone where their app was reporting that they definitely had them, he wouldn't hazard a guess on the discrepancy until I nearly physically herded him to the empty slot ("yup, like I said, we don't have any"), other visits produced only ambivalence, etc. On my last visit I found somebody who seemed reasonably helpful until he said "the stock numbers on the web site are always off" but I gently pressured him to find somebody who could find out if they actually had any (I've been trying to buy this item for 5 weeks) and he agreed there were several units in the store. But nobody knew where they were. The frustrating part of this experience is that each time they always told me one of these things: "Come back in a couple of days." "Come back in a week." "Come back tomorrow." If, at any time, they just told me the truth, "We're not going to help you. We don't have them." I would have dropped it. It was the LIES that made me press on. So today I went online and bought/paid for the chainsaw and selected the "pickup in store within 2 hours" option. And waited. Wringing my hands and petting my bald cat as I sat in an overstuffed leather chair. I waited. About an hour later they called me and explained they didn't have the item, maybe they did, but if they do have it, they don't know where it is... but they could sell me this other similar item (that I didn't want). No thanks. They offered to cancel and refund my order but I whined enough that they reluctantly agreed to transfer one in from the Kona store and call me when it got to Hilo- at least a week from now. Tune in next week for another exciting episode! RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - Mr nice guy - 10-06-2017 I'll second using a reciprocating saw with a pruning blade for a lightweight tool for small jobs. Not as fast as a chainsaw, but lighter, quieter. No worry about storing with fuel in the tank. Starts with a pull of a trigger. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - bgiles - 10-07-2017 I use my DeWalt 20V lithium ion reciprocating saw almost exclusively for taking out guava. Have a complimentary drill, so two batteries and charger. After first battery gives out, I go in for hydration and another battery, putting the old one on to charge. Safer than chainsaw (I own 5 chainsaws, was a professional logger in '77.) My Stihl pole chainsaw is a necessity, but wish I'd gotten the longer version... RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - kalakoa - 10-07-2017 Funny thing, I have the previous version (blue) Ryobi chainsaw, bought it at Hilo HD. Back then, they had a dedicated Ryobi display... seems like selection/availability was lost after they took that display down. On the plus side, it's almost Xmas Shopping Season, and HD gets plenty of Ryobi stuff stocked/displayed -- best time to get the high-capacity Li-ion batteries ($99 for a 2-pack). RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - terracore - 10-07-2017 The problem with the reciprocating saw besides that it takes longer, is it causes more ants to fall down on me than using a chainsaw. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - dayna - 10-08-2017 Most folks can use those smaller saws to cut the guava. Our guava is older commercial types and the base of these trees are in some cases over a foot wide. Thus the need for the chain saw type cutter. Dayna www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - terracore - 10-13-2017 So two days after the "transfer from the Kona store" was supposed to take place, I did not receive the promised phone call from Home Depot that the chainsaw was ready for me to pick up. I knew this meant I would have to go into the store again and deal with another bout of frustration, so I mentally prepared myself to experience a very high degree of frustration, and Home Depot did not fail to deliver. I went to the pickup desk and explained everything that happened and they had no idea what I was talking about. Transfer a chain saw from the Kona store? No, they didn't do that. Definitely nothing like that came from Kona. Sigh. Deep breath. Not her fault. Think happy thoughts. Long story short, I walked out of there with my chain saw. Not because they did anything right, but because there happened to be one on the shelf. RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - Kapoho Joe - 10-13-2017 Highlarious! Now, did you get the full meal deal package or the barebones saw only one? RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - Hunt Stoddard - 10-13-2017 Related note: I've noticed customer service at HD has slowly degraded over the last few years. It's often hard to get good info and stock often seems out. When you ask them to check in the back they disappear, never to return, etc. Of course, better stock than Orchidland True Value. If you absolutely, positively need a part, just skip it and try the Pahoa or Keaau Ace. Stocks in Orchidland True Value are like Chile right before the fall of Allende RE: No Ryobi tools for you! (Hilo Home Depot) - birdmove - 10-14-2017 Amazon is getting worse by the day for not shipping stuff to Hawaii. I have to put an item in my cart, and go through the steps of buying before I really find out if they will ship it to me. Is Amazon Prme really an improvement? Jon in Keaau/HPP |
