Can you provide me any examples of this happening?

Knife manufacturers are not exempted from liability by Congress. Only gun manufacturers are. I assure you that knife manufacturers carry liability insurance.

The 100 million plus gun owners who properly lock, store and use their guns legally.

Have you ever heard of a knife manufacturer being held liable because someone used their product to commit a crime with?

Was the crash the cars' fault or how the person was using it?
If the car had a physical fault that directly contributed to the crash, then yes, the vehicle manufacturer could be held liable.

Thanks for trying Rob, I hope you are successful.
Maybe Hawaii could lead the way by banning all assault rifles (automatic, semi-automatic etc etc, whatever the current jargon is).

Well with all due respect I guess I should have asked about financial liability. I am aware of lots of cases of guns being stolen from their owners and misused without consequence to their owners. Similarly accidental shootings resulting in injury or death rarely if ever involve the gun owner paying for the medical or funeral costs. The taxpayers are primarily on the hook. I believe that better control on who owns guns will result in fewer deaths, injuries and financial cost to the taxpayers.

As for knife manufacturers I would suggest that they have liability insurance precisely to protect them in such an event. They are not automatically exempt.

My goal ultimately is to fund a study seeking to prevent or minimize further deaths and injuries to innocent victims such as school children.

Is this a bad thing? I do not assume nothing can be done.

Lol all illegal aliens. Two rear enders and a t bone.

RE: Gun Control Proposal for Hawaii - Rob Tucker - 02-25-2018

I was rear ended by an uninsured, unlicensed driver a couple months ago. Lucky for me I had insurance. Geico covered my losses quickly and fully.

Hawaii could start by making all gun owners liable for whatever happens with their gun, even if it's stolen.
Maybe people would actually lock them up properly then and we don't have to keep reading about gun thefts in the paper.

I didn't mean it like that. Just making a point about laws that don't make a difference.

Let's just say we agree all guns will no longer be sold...

I think that is a good start. To be followed by a large bounty paid on every gun turned in to be destroyed.

I do, btw, think guns are the problem. People will always come in all shades, and be all sorts of crazy, but without guns, the crazy people can't shoot anyone.

Do you even know what an assault rifle is, PaulW?

Automatic and select-fire (3 round burst) assault rifles are already banned. There are some exemptions from before the prior ban, but you must have special permits and they are quite difficult and costly to maintain. I have not heard of a real assault rifle used in a crime in a long time. They are very expensive to own.

Many hunting rifles use more powerful rounds than what you are calling an assault rifle.
