RE: Sheds - Plastic VS Sheetmetal - ?? - randomq - 03-24-2018 I wish you could buy AAC (big lightweight aerated concrete) blocks here. I'd love to try them out for a small secure shed. I suspect for something so small (and not a dwelling) you might be able to get by without the poured concrete sections. RE: Sheds - Plastic VS Sheetmetal - ?? - Mangosteen - 03-24-2018 I built a structure out of concrete block (CMU) to house my off grid solar power system. Its about 8' X 12' with a metal roof. Its on a concrete slab. The blocks are filled with concrete. Not terribly difficult to build. Just keep each row of blocks level and be certain to attach the roof securely.. Might be a bit of overkill if you just want a storage shed, but the structure will never be blown away and it won't ever rot (wood shed) or become brittle (plastic shed). RE: Sheds - Plastic VS Sheetmetal - ?? - terracore - 03-24-2018 Some of the rock walls I've seen look so solid and perfectly straight I've often thought that four of them with a roof and a door would make an attractive shed. When you built your concrete block shed and filled the blocks with concrete did a truck bring it in or did you use bags? (and if so, how many bags). Did you use rebar? RE: Sheds - Plastic VS Sheetmetal - ?? - Mangosteen - 03-24-2018 quote: Bags (can't remember how many) with rebar. Bags gave me the ability to make as much concrete as I needed when I needed it. Truck would have been too hurried. Just used a wheel barrel not a mixer. And like Rome, it wasn't built in a day. |
