Besides the elevated health and/or safety risks at those locales, what would be the point of a vacation in lower Puna at this time? You're going nowhere from Pahoa south/east and might as well stay out of the way in Pahoa too. I think it's good advice for the AVERAGE tourist.

VNP seems to be the big draw around here, South Puna not so much.
Should people cancel their holidays in Hilo and Volcano too?

Hopefully with the loss of so much housing/so many residents homeless, the legislature will finally pass that bill to crack down on all the illegal, parasitic vacation rentals in residential neighborhoods that are making the rental market so difficult on the island and that housing can go to renting to residents who lost their homes as opposed to tourists who won't be coming.

Nah, just lower Puna for now. But, the cool hikes in VNP are closed, and the entire Park could be shut down again at a moment's notice depending upon eruption developments. Bummer to have your heart set on visiting it, only to be turned away.

You must be new to this whole discussion. There is plenty of affordable housing and the low rent ones people clamor for in Section 8 aren't the type that would be rented to tourists. Vacation rentals bring in a lot of taxes and other money. Tourism is the main economic activity on this island.
