You can take a heli ride for $200, maybe cheaper. But it would still be nice to see it from the land. I wonder how the view is up on MK?

Uh what helicopter company is offering lava tours for less than $200?

Cheapest my neighbor found was 209 but he didn’t try them all or ask for standby rates.

Was that with the kamaaina rate? I asked about it a few years ago (I think it was Blue Hawaiian) and if memory serves, it was 30% off, and applicable to everybody in your reservation (so mom visiting from the mainland would also get the discount).

As I understand it, kamaaina was 20% off but only to those in the party who can show State ID.
A news article today mentioned people viewing at Sacred Heart in Pahoa.

We took Blue Hawaiian a year or so ago with mainland visitors, and all got the Kamaaina rate if traveling with the local resident. They may have changed the policy since then , however.

I alternate between thinking of the planet as home — dear and familiar stone hearth and garden — and as a hard land of exile in which we are all sojourners. Today I favor the latter view. The word “sojourner”... invokes a nomadic people’s sense of vagrancy, a praying people’s knowledge of estrangement, a thinking people’s intuition of sharp loss: “For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.” - Annie Dillard

We took Blue Hawaiian a few days ago, $388 for two, with local discount. Only one state ID was required.
Well worth it, even after watching all of the videos online.

Cheapest fly over?

$230/hr for 3 people if you meet weight limits.

I’d be happy to be the student and get some flight time in if you don’t have a third person and don’t want to fly the plane#129305;
