RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-11-2018 lava zones 1 and 2, it doesn't make sense to bar construction there, said Mayor Harry Kim So - - Over the past two months there has been finger pointing at people who built their home in zone 1 & 2, with suggestions that "they should have known better" as well as less charitable comments. Now the mayor steps in and says, let's do it again. Henceforth, all pointing and blame shall bypass Puna Z1 & Z2 homeowners as if they possess a negligence deflecting berm around them, a berm which channels accountability straight to the County of Hawaii, where it deservedly belongs. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - Gdhsquare - 07-11-2018 quote: That sucks. I see a lot of stuff up for sale in LZ2. The owners there will just have to make the best of it and hold out. Good news for those selling in LZ3. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - kalakoa - 07-11-2018 as if they possess a negligence deflecting berm around them They do -- it's called "State-sponsored insurance by mandatory risk pool". Realtor, bank financing, insurance, presto: homeowner isn't "negligent", they played by the book. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - Seeb - 07-11-2018 This is just the county dodging responsibility. If they said it was unsafe now would mean they did something wrong when they approved the subdivision. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - Pilgrim - 07-11-2018 quote:Not necessarily... A big part of northern HPP is siting on top of the Ai la'au flow, which stared all the way up at the summit and poured out huge amounts of lava for about 60 years. Granted that was a while back but potential buyers will probably be taking a harder look at the maps nowadays since the unthinkable actually happened in our lifetimes. And it's not over yet. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - kalakoa - 07-11-2018 A big part of northern HPP is siting on top of the Ai la'au flow The entire island is made of lava flows. Perhaps we should condemn the whole thing, and have leases in a new State ag park in San Diego or Portland. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - reni - 07-11-2018 "This is just the county dodging responsibility. If they said it was unsafe now would mean they did something wrong when they approved the subdivision." ------------------------- They did do something wrong. I honestly did not expect the govern. to actually come thru with the expense of land swapping fee simple lava zone 1 for build-able fee simple zone 3. This was the main reason I found lava zone 1 swap for lava 3 long term leasehold as a possible solution in moving families out of lava zone 1. For the county building dept.to continue and carry on, issuing building permits for new construction in lava zone 1 , is just mind blowing to me. It is irresponsible to place a new group of trusting families in the same situation that we currently have right now. And it is unfair to tax payers to suggest that we help subsidize new construction's insurance needs. Building in lava zone 1 is a risky business that should be fully understood . (Lava zone disclosure forms required of every real estate transaction) If people choose to build in lava zone 1, then that should be entirely their risk. If mortgage companies wish to grant mortgages, that would be their business decision. But to have the State provide Insurance options , no. And what about the cost of county road re-builds? This is nuts. Are we honestly looking at nothing changing with this tragedy, other than an increase to taxpayers? RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - kalakoa - 07-11-2018 what about the cost of county road re-builds? Especially when County already washes their hands of so many miles of road. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - Chunkster - 07-11-2018 Are we honestly looking at nothing changing with this tragedy, other than an increase to taxpayers? - - Reni That appears to be the plan, and the tax increases have probably just begun. RE: LZ1/LZ2 building restrictions "counterproductive" - kalakoa - 07-11-2018 appears to be the plan If only the citizens would demand ... something else. |
