Tom, Tom, Tom. Back in the olden days, before internet there were magazines out of paper. One of those magazines that were available was "Playboy", a magazine that contained articles, or stories or writings by various authors, including interviews of very famous people. When somebody was caught with the magazine, the common excuse was "I buy it for the articles" to try and avoid being considered a "pervert" for the racy photos within.
"Growing your own". I am surprised you didn't catch this one as somewhat "dry" humor of what occurs to males when excited in a sexual way.

Thanks, everyone. Cultural differences I guess, but now understand the subtleties. Please forgive my ignorance!
Tink - as far as I know, "grow your own" means so many things other than what you mentioned. As for The Sun, my memories are that people who bought The Sun made the excuse that they wanted to read the news, hence the confusion about terms. I suspect the use of "article" is from the US because I really can't remember the last time The Sun wrote an article.
