RE: Barking dogs - ElysianWort - 03-15-2019 You should go to your neighbors bearing a gift. Fruit-basket, malasadas or something like that. Then, after greeting and introducing yourself then bring up the dog issue. You're way more likely to get results that way. Honey attracts more flies than vinegar. (however someone once said, dead squirrels attract more than either) RE: Barking dogs - terracore - 03-15-2019 The first thing one should ever do is contact the owner. Frequently this has to be accomplished by leaving a note on the gate. If they choose not to respond, it's time to move onto the next step. If they do respond, try a civil conversation to see where that leads. Frequently owners "have no idea!" that their dog noise is making other people's lives hell. If they choose not to go the civility route, our humane society web site says: "If you have a concern with a loud animal, call your local police agency." http://www.hihs.org/services/animal-control There are also anti-bark devices that you can try at the fence line that sense the barking and project a corrective ultrasonic pulse at the offender to provide the training the dog owner has not. However, I do not believe they have a high success rate, but this one has a "5 star" review based on 164 reviews: https://www.amazon.com/Barking-Waterproof-Outdoor-Adjustable-Ultrasonic/dp/B07MSD3TY3/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=anti+bark&qid=1552704298&s=gateway&sr=8-3&linkCode=ll1&tag=pw016-20&linkId=7a70045d4ef8e467327c175d2a09cb8d&language=en_US ETA: If you try something like this and it works, let us know. But try the civility process first. RE: Barking dogs - reni - 03-15-2019 "We have recently moved to HPP. Our neighbor has 4 dogs chained to tiny dog houses in front of their house. Two months ago, our neighbor acquired two more dogs which they keep in a cage at the back of the house"..... I'd take this as a hint to the kind of person I would be dealing with . Offering a Fruit basket does not come to my mind. I would talk to the other neighbors first. RE: Barking dogs - ElysianWort - 03-15-2019 Ok scratch the fruit basket. Maybe a case of Natural Light then? Or another route? ACME supersonic dog whistle, noise cancellation headphones and a shift in sleep schedule so awake at 3:00 to blow whistle till dawn? Or a set of Klipsch horn concert speaker aimed at violator and and looped recording of said dogs barking? Or instead maybe the famous "dogs barking jingle bells" Christmas song on loop? RE: Barking dogs - Guest - 03-15-2019 tsk tsk EW , . every boddy knows Green Bottles da bess when trying to bribe or make best impression : ) RE: Barking dogs - Mimosa - 03-15-2019 We have a neighbor who works in Kona - His wife works in HonoKa'a town. They leave in 2 different trucks. He leaves at 4am Monday thru Saturday - His wife at 4:30am Monday thru Friday .As soon as they leave their dogs ( At least 3 large dogs start barking ) - ALL day long non stop. They both get home at around 8pm.Every neighbor has spoken to them/the police along with Humane society have left notes - sent letters certified - the works . Now after 6 months it is just back round noise and we tune it out .But we know when they are not home - Our solution is tether more Show Birds close the property line on their days off .But since it is AG land we are allowed to raise live stock . Since PD and H.S. have been out numerous times they must now go to court - if they miss the court for any reason there will be a contempt of court placed upon both . Ho Hum just another wonderful day in Paradise. Mrs.Mimosa RE: Barking dogs - Guest - 03-16-2019 Lol Mrs. Mimosa, i hope those birds argue back just as hard! RE: Barking dogs - dan d - 03-18-2019 Sounds pretty gloomy Mimosa. I had a crack house across the street and the retired police chieff 3 houses down in lakeland wet side waimea. Chief would do nothing. I vowed to elliminate the problem if it ever happened hpp near me. Many way to solve it. What happens if nthe dogs get loose? Good luck HPP RE: Barking dogs - macuu222 - 03-18-2019 Just my opinion but I think barking dogs would be a reason for complaining in "residental" zoned areas. HPP is zoned agricultural...which allows all kinds of animals and law enforcement is probably more lenient with the noise level. RE: Barking dogs - kalakoa - 03-18-2019 barking dogs would be a reason for complaining in "residental" zoned areas Areas such as Hilo, where the higher property values generate enough tax revenue to pay for enforcement of quality-of-life issues. All "ag" lots 1-acre or smaller should be upzoned to R. |
