RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - dobanion - 02-03-2021 If they could release the darned thing at $100k, I got a friend with a checkbook waiting. He's currently considering a "tiny home" at 400 sq/ft (120 of that is loft), at about that price. RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - kalakoa - 02-03-2021 How ironic: buying a substandard home that may not qualify for permits and which isn't built by the carpenters' union ... because that's the best available option that fits the budget. RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - randomq - 02-04-2021 I can't believe how much people pay for "tiny homes". Even with the inflated lumber prices and charging an equal amount for labor I can have a place that size dried in for under 25000, and "Puna finished" for not much more. (and that's soundly built, 3/4" T&G subfloor, 16" oc studs and appropriately sized beams, joists, rafters, and purlins...) RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - terracore - 02-04-2021 Local tiny homes starting $45k https://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/for/d/captain-cook-tiny-house-for-sale/7270721487.html https://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/for/d/hawi-moving-sale-tiny-house-on-wheels/7271199008.html RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - tada - 02-04-2021 Anybody seen the model rental shed on Keaau Hwy https://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/for/d/keaau-20ft-container-storage-for-rent/7271651825.html 911 Storage also turning them into "tiny houses" by cutting 3 big windows and a door into the side and selling for $10500. Convinced me to buy one. Cannot stack them like Matson boxes but insulation built into the walls with light galvanized steel. I have a Matson box already. They are so rugged and watertight can be a disadvantage because there's no ventilation. You can have windows and doors cut on Oahu but raises the shipping costs because at that point they are rated unstackable.. I decided to rust out some holes in my box. So I bought some sandpaper and steel wool rubbed off the paint. I found what works better is the most common thing on the Island. Pick a rock off the ground gash the wall. Hard work but hopefully get some pin prick holes at least eventually?? RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - randomq - 02-04-2021 If you're going for windows and doors, I hear an angle grinder works well. Then use heavy gauge cement filled pipe (or wood framing) to reinforce any openings. RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - kalakoa - 02-04-2021 Find "Container Homes" (produced by HGTV) on your favorite streaming service. Sadly, there are only 5 episodes. RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - tada - 02-04-2021 This is the ad for the "tiny home" I'm buying https://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/for/d/keaau-insulated-container-tiny-home/7271650986.html It's not overbuilt to be "stackable" like Matson boxes. So I thinking must be easier to work with cutting out doors and windows. Plus trying to avoid hooking up Helco so don't have the juice for power tools. Right now I quarter size hole for ventilation. What the best paint to prevent rust on top of the Matson box? 911 Storage convinced me when you remove the paint layers the bare metal deteriorate readily. And conex box too industrial for that HGTV vibe. If you look at the 911 tiny house that's as HGTV as I need. RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - kalakoa - 02-04-2021 What the best paint to prevent rust on top of the Matson box? A roof. With a nice overhang to help keep the rest of it dry. RE: HPM HalePlus modular factory homes - tada - 02-05-2021 Ya keep it cooler too. With all the banging and clanging containers have to endure you be lucky to get one with a hole on the side but not on the top or bottom. |
