The MK tour companies can't get up there and depending on the whim of the protesters, anyone they don't like, including UH scientists who research ecology on Mauna Kea. On occasion, astronomers aren't allowed up depending who is on guard at the bamboo gate on the spur road. This morning, observatory crews discovered that the cones delineating the spur road access had been moved by protesters to make that access even more difficult and dangerous to everyone.
No, they are not letting everyone who works up there to go up and they are making it progressively more difficult for those that can.

I hate to point this out, but: in a sufficiently small economy (especially when on an island, and even more especially where the government can't be bothered to do its job) it's best to bring your own money -- retirement income, remote job, or just a big pile of cash.
