And the homes seemed African tribal. Lots of skulls used in foreboding decoration.

Here is an interesting video on some NZ Maori seeking their roots through Polynesia and eventually Taiwan. The (beautiful) Taiwan aborigine girl they meet at the Aborigine Museum looks like she could be from Hilo.
