That seems to suggest the siren uses its, er, siren as a burglar alarm. I can see that both being clever and rather stupid at the same time. If it was just the burglar alarm, it seems it was a particularly loud one.

Thanks for the link, dan_c. Hadn't heard that song in a long time. It's good but quite depressing but that's the sort of stuff Radiohead did. I don't know what it was like here in the 70s and 80s, but as a kid growing up then, it was a very scary time - I even had nightmares about nuclear attacks as it was on the news so often. As for movies, the ones I really remember are "When the Wind Blows" which was a cartoon movie but incredibly sad (David Bowie sang the theme song, same name - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td0PohHn2BE -)and "Threads". I can watch "The Day After" but watching "Threads" is still a hard thing for me to do. It was a relatively low-budget BBC movie but scared the cr*p out of everyone who watched it back in 1984. If you do get an opportunity to watch it, I highly recommend doing so, but find the right time and place in your life to do so.

Again??? I've finally learned to distinguish the warning siren from a distant vacuum cleaner. This was the siren. Another runaway??
