The USGS web site must be getting hammered by people like myself curious to see what's happening. It's the slowest I've ever seen right now.

In any case, a return of lava to Halema'uma'u is a relief compared to some of the other alternatives like LERZ or Mauna Loa. Pele is brightening up the skies over her home in time for the Winter Solstice.

They’re saying the lake is still there.

USGS facebook page has lots of pictures and video. Fountains are spewing from above the lake, so that might make a difference on explosive events.

The USGS Volcanoes twitter feed is the best I have seen so far. The usual webcams feeds are completely overburdened.

The trade winds are diminishing, this afternoon the plume from Kīlauea shifted to the north.  Here’s a high resolution gif from GOES-17 earlier today.  If there’s no wind tonight the vog might move in any direction:

Poor Kona.  Vog days are back.

No. The water lake is gone. It is now a lava lake.

I know that, the original story was updated to reflect that.
