I just found the official Blog for this voyage.

I'll be following the venture online.[Big Grin]

Unfortunately, they are having difficulties already

I was wondering why there wasn't any recent updates.

This is a "what were they thinking" statement from today's blog.

....Turns out a lot of the well intended gifts exceeded the bare necessities criteria. So they offloaded a number of things .......... and even Joel's pet bunny which he had innocently brought along without thinking through the extent to which the high seas might not be bunny-friendly.

Don't worry folks... it's not what you are thinking [Big Grin]

I know this quote has been used before... but I thought it was fitting that they used it in their most recent post:

"...Fiji water, for example," he said. "A one-liter bottle is taken out of the aquifer of this little island, and shipped all the way across the world, producing like half a pound of greenhouse gases so you can have this one-liter bottle of water..."

These guys have no respect for the sea they're going into. If a rescue is necessary they should have to pay, ditto if they loose any bottles. Go to work and raise some money for your cause, don't be laying a guilt trip on everyone else. Develop a way to cash in on the bulk plastic.

They are needing some wind!

Here is a video log from them.

The Starbulletin is reporting today that the Junk is to land in Hilo!

I will be there when it lands... If it makes it[^]

Interesting that the Starbulletin seems to be crediting the picture in the article as a "Starbulletin" picture, when it was taken by someone else.

*edit* Ha! They finally credited the actual photographer.

The paper didn't mention the blog on the Junk...

However from this latest entry...they sure seem to be eating well. [Big Grin]

I just thought about this for a few...

If they are arriving in Hilo and they have no plans on taking the ship back... What is going to happen to all those bottles.

They are basically shipping their rubbish here. [8D]

I guess they could try to redeem the bottles at a local redemption center, however, the bottles weren't collected in Hawaii, so the HI-5 thing wouldn't really fly.[}Smile]

I think the answer is in the article. You need to read it.

They want to raise $15,000 to ship back $750 worth of plastic bottles.
Or something like that. Perhaps the raft is now a museum piece.

I did read it earlier today...amazing how the Starbulletin is revising this article[Wink]

* Original Picture credited: Starbulletin... now it credits Peter Bennett of Ambient Images (whom also copyrights his pictures) so if they were not of "Courtesy" then the SB might be pulling a fast one.[Wink]
* First it stated that it was headed to Hilo
* It's now changed to:
The vessel is slated to arrive at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor in August.

What happens if they don't raise the $15,000?

I wish they would at least put the time they update the stories.[Big Grin]
