RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - Carey - 03-30-2022 Had not PLANNED to go to our Hilo vet, yet an injured cat over the weekend... & have more info on this Dr R had Aloha Vet Clinic in an LLC, which locks up if one of the parties dies (or quits, but that usually has a work-around) one of our vets at Makati is now looking at this as a potential to grow into her own practice, but legal stuffs must be attended to. So, right now, with no vet, Aloha is only taking on certain activities that they can.. & Hilo is still going to be down 2 vets... in just one year... with no replacements... WE NEED A VET SCHOOL IN STATE is the simplest answer... & if the UH system would ever stop bickering about which campus would house the school... have been here almost 17yrs ... & still they bicker... RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - kalakoa - 03-30-2022 The simplest answer is license reciprocity, but Hawaii doesn't do that. RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - AaronM - 03-31-2022 Wait. So a vet from the mainland cannot simply move here and hang out their shingle? Why am I so surprised? I should be numb to the incompetence by now. RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - kalakoa - 03-31-2022 Hawaii is generally "protectionist". Competition is limited for your "safety". https://www.civilbeat.org/2021/11/50-years-later-hawaiis-law-requiring-professional-licenses-could-be-in-for-an-overhaul/ RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - terracore - 04-08-2022 From Social Media: ALOHA VETERINARY CENTER IS REOPENING-WELCOME DR MALIA LYONS TO THE TEAM?? Aloha Veterinary Center is now open for prescription and food refills this week with a 48 hour wait for approval. Appointments starting back up April 11th. RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - macuu222 - 04-08-2022 Thanks Terracore. Will be calling today for prescription refill and food. RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - ChunksterK - 04-08-2022 Dr. Lyons has taken care of Siegfried the Chunkhund and Frau Chunkster's Gretl for several years now at Maika'i. She is quite good, and we were waiting to see if Aloha would offer night and weekend emergency services before moving our dogs over there. I called today and was told that Aloha will NOT offer this and will screen in-hours emergency requests, indicating that such help will be limited. Maika'i send us an email saying that they will now have only limited night and weekend coverage. So does that leave East Hawaii with no 24 hour vet coverage at all? Sure looks like it. RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - kalianna - 04-09-2022 Pahoa Animal Hospital will accept weekend emergencies with a $300 fee. RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - terracore - 04-09-2022 I don't recall exactly, but I think that is about double of their weekday emergency fee. They have a smaller fee for urgent care, if you can drop the animal off and they fit it in when they can. RE: What happened to Aloha Vet? - Or1on - 05-19-2022 They're back up and running. Two doctors. |
