RE: Any water well owners? - David M - 06-15-2008

Just my opinion, but if you CANNOT get from the info from your well drilling contractor, I'd seriously reconsider. Any contractors best source of business is a satisfied customer. I can't imagine there are a significant number of well drillers in Puna, contact them all. Being as a permit is required, ask for a list of permit holders and ask them.
My guess is there are very few people on PW that have a well in Seaview, so to expect first hand info here might be pretty slim.
re your "And I don't gamble" statement - WOW I'd have to say well vs catchment is definitely a gamble until you have a proven and tested water source.

David,thank you for the advice.
About not getting information from the contractor - it's not exactly the case. There is still time,I asked very recently.Though my very important e-mail was signed not by the person I asked( which is not necessarily a bad thing, just unexpected)
And to be fair,I was informed about the quality of water (slightly brakish).I am going to use reverse osmosis system.I don't think I'd be drinking catchment water either.(Yes,I know about UV filters).
The thing is that Sea View has substantially less rain that any other subdivision ,and I am planning to do a serious gardening.
Anyway, like I said,so far I am still planning to have a well, unless the risk is too high.
But it is a kind of strange that no information available.

Carey,I know ,you are really busy working on you house. But may be you will answer later...Do you know how many wells are in Puna? How many could have been wells ? Any equipment to minimize the risk ?

RE: Any water well owners? - JWFITZ - 06-16-2008

If you've got brackish water the RO system that will be required to eliminate the salts is going to be hell on your electric bills and very expensive indeed. Sounds like what you really need is A)a nice catchment system that B)Feeds a large fish pond to be used for irrigation water.

RE: Any water well owners? - StillHope - 06-16-2008

Thank you,JWITZ!
Brackish water is just a warning.
About RO-do you have one?I don't know if I am going to use it .
Anyway, whether or not I will be forced by the circumstances to have a catchment,at this point I am still researching a risk minimizing possibility (diagnostic equipment -land sonar?)of well drilling.
And,BTW,a "nice" catchment I would like to have (concrete tank) was mentioned here at the forum and the price was higher than the well in my place.
Anyway,I don't want to highjack my own thread.
I need the information on wells.

I don't have a RO unit, but have installed a number on boats and unless you've got an option you don't want to go with that for sure.

What on earth do they charge for a concrete tank here? I built my own, it wasn't but about 800 bucks in materials and took two days, and that is a 2000 gallon tank. Just curious, there isn't much to it!

RE: Any water well owners? - StillHope - 06-16-2008

I removed HPP part ,because at this point any information will be helpful.Though it's pretty obvious that chances I get a response from a well owner are not great.Though the contractor said they have 20 customers right now.I guess, those folks are not PW members..
JWITZ,I e-mailed you.
