RE: King Kam hotel in Kona - kalakoa - 01-22-2023

the reduced number of vacation rentals had a strong effect on supply/competition

System working as designed (by the people who designed it -- which is to say, not us).

I doubt that a reduction in STVR's has caused hotel prices to go up.

The majority of STVR's are on the Kona side and were permitted because they were mostly in resort zones.

The ones that are gone were on AG zoned land .

Could be anything, or nothing. Rental car company said $200/day was the new "making up for lost time" rate. Tourists will just pay it, so who cares if residents are inconvenienced?

The ones that are gone were on AG zoned land .

I wonder if this translates to "the ones that were cheaper than a hotel".

Only place affordable on that side of the Island is the Manago Hotel in Captain Cook.
