Punatang, this link might help you: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/crumpet-vs-english-muffin I know TomK called Windscale a disaster, and no available fresh French bread a crisis. Would this thread now be considered a catastrophe because it is morphing into a discussion of breakfast breads? RE: French bread crisis - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-25-2024 No idea why this has turned into a thread about crumpets. On Punaweb at times, that’s the stuff of life. RE: French bread crisis - punikahakaiferret - 11-26-2024 "On Punaweb at times, that’s the stuff of life." Or as some clever sort once said, "Do not squander time, for that is the stuff of which life is made". Whereas bread is known as the staff of life, right? Staff, stuff...staph, stiff...Steph (know her?) Just trying to keep the conversation lively! :-D RE: French bread crisis - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-26-2024 Staff, stuff...staph, stiff...Steph Yes, as both Shakespeare & Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon said: We are such stuff as dreams are made on" True enough because someone else observed that man cannot live by crumpets or baguettes alone. Sometimes you need a nice fresh French bread. RE: French bread crisis - Wao nahele wahine - 11-26-2024 Punikahakaiferret, How about stuffing? Since it's almost Thanksgiving. RE: French bread crisis - Punatang - 11-26-2024 I once heard a farmer say that his cow, "jumped over the fence and got bread, now she's in milk" which made me think of French toast. Well, my plans were for toasted French bread sandwiches with turkey, sage and onion stuffing. After that, there were egg sandwiches with potato and leek soup, but they didn't order enough bread. RE: French bread crisis - punikahakaiferret - 11-26-2024 As to stuffing or "living on bread alone"... I no longer eat any of that ilk...I am one of those wacky keto people. I live on bacon, heavy cream, and cheeeeeese. And coffee. And wine. (Ok, there is more, but it doesn't make for clever copy.) Happy holidaze, all! RE: French bread crisis - kalianna - 11-26-2024 TomK: "they didn't order enough bread." Do you have someone that orders bread for you? Now that you jogged my memory, I think I had a crumpet one morning in a home in Mildenhall. This was many years ago but I'm sure the person who made it called it something else. Quite delicious as I recall. |
