Huber, brewed in Monroe, sold a case of 24 12 oz bottles for $5.00. Plus 2 cent per bottle deposit. But you got that back when you returned the bottles. The 10 cent beers at the bars admittedly were probably only 8 or 10 oz glasses, but you wanted to finish your beer while it was still ice cold. Even in winter. Definitely no foam on top in those glasses. No bartender worth his salt dared try stick us with any foam on a Friday or Saturday night. RE: Inflation In Puna - Punatang - 08-08-2026 That means 1 beer in 2026 costs the same as 100 beers in 1970 Sure that must be one person's fault. Nixon! RE: Inflation In Puna - HiloJulie - 08-08-2026 Sure that must be one person's fault. Nixon! Come on now Tangy! I know your penchant for always trying to interject your National Politics diatribes on most every thread, but at least you could have laid the blame at the feet of Burns or Ariyoshi. I mean, it is Maui HOTPE was talking about and the 1970's after all AND you would have kept it Hawaii related. Reminds me of a story from decades ago about a couple of guys who moved to Maui from the mainland for a "business enterprise". The money they had budgeted for 2 months of essentials was gone in 2 weeks! I wonder where the Foodland owner lived otherwise-Wailea? So, one beer now costs the same as 100 beers in 1970. Well, that could also be the ratio of how fast your body metabolizes alcohol now and then.
RE: Inflation In Puna - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-08-2026 Sure that must be one person's fault. ***** … Come on now Tangy! I know your penchant for always trying to interject your National Politics diatribes Back in Hawaii, I drove my friend to Kona Ellison Onizuka airport yesterday. Her flight was first delayed 20 minutes, then an hour, then three hours, then cancelled. While waiting she relented and surrendered to current inflationary conditions which either hang over us by a thread like the Sword of Damocles or the weight of an albatross around our necks. She bought a beer, now $15. RE: Inflation In Puna - Punatang - 08-08-2026 Apologies PW! My Richard "A Hui Ho Gold Standard" Nixon in Hawaii photo somehow did not attach to the previous post. Naturally, this oversight invited some constructive albeit grossly hypocritical feedback. Please find attached, my corrective measure. Have a wonderful weekend and please, don't be a Richard. RE: Inflation In Puna - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-08-2026 My Richard "A Hui Ho Gold Standard" Nixon in Hawaii photo somehow did not attach to the previous post. Is subterfuge and misdirection a natural instinct? Or is there an “Idiots Guide: Look Over Here Not Over There!” available? I paid my HECO bill a few days ago. I used less electricity, but the total due was higher than just a few months ago. Most everything I bought at Costco yesterday was higher. Except the hot dog in the food court. RE: Inflation In Puna - Punatang - 08-08-2026 Yea, everything really shot up in 2021,2022,2023. Highest inflation in 40 years, they say. Thankfully, it has slowed down dramatically recently but prices continue to rise, as they always do and people keep crying with a loaf of bread under each arm, as they always do. RE: Inflation In Puna - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-08-2026 everything really shot up in 2021,2022,2023. prices continue to rise, as they always do and people keep crying as they always do. Prices rose in the early 2020’s due to COVID stimulus checks and quantitative easing. Money was pumped into the economy which raised prices afterwards. It probably saved many businesses in Hawaii, it provided paychecks for workers when businesses had less income due to reduced sales. It kept renters in their homes. That was an emergency. It assisted our friends and neighbors in Puna. Inflation now is entirely self inflicted and only benefits those who recently received the biggest tax breaks. It helps almost no one in Puna. |
