I have a chuckle every time I read about getting out the vote in Hawaii.
WHY ?
The same people run and get voted in year after year. How many more times will crazy Mazie get elected ?
The county council is the only race that I really can make a difference with my vote.

Actually, Obie, our votes for OHA members could make a world of difference. But I can appreciate that if one is not versed in the nuances it is all just a list of names to throw darts at.. and best to be avoided.
That's how I thought when Freddy took the mater to the supremes, it's their kuleana leave 'em be. But gradually I realized that as a supporter of Hawaiian causes it's important for me to help the ones I care about along.
For instance, I'd strongly urge a vote for Kalei Akaka (Big Island born and raised daughter of Danny and Anna Akaka). But hey, as I said, if you don't know the nuances.. maybe just pass that one by.

Eileen Oʻhara vs Lloyd Enriquez: Eileen has just pushed the PONC aquisition of Honolulu landing to completion. She has also helped to set up the Pahoa Commercial Kitchen, initiated the Smoke It Up Festival to try to get a mobile pig butchering setup, sheʻs the Director of Malama O Puna and has years of county council experience. Lloyd is a security guard running a very negative campaign reviving old untrue rumors. His platform is that he is Kanaka and he listens. Thatʻs all. Have you ever heard of him doing anything in terms of community involvement?

Figured this would have been over in Puna Politics - County Council District 4, but just from Lloyd Enriquez's site, he talks about growing up in Pahoa and doing a lifetime of community service, which includes being a Police Commissioner, and he was instrumental in The Hub along with Ikaika Marzo, during the 2018 eruption. Also he looks to have the endorsement of Hawaii Firefighter's Union, Organization of Police Officers, ILWU, UPW, HGEA, etc.
ETA: Looks like former candidate Cyd Hoffeld is endorsing Lloyd Enriquez. Anyone know if the other former candidate Smiley Burrows has made an endorsement?
Not being from District 4 (may the odds be ever in your favor!), isn't the hubbub between the candidates largely related to The Hub, and County workers, including Eileen at the time, not liking a grassroots organization leading much of the on-the-ground response to the eruption? Apparently there's also something recently about O'Hara's Facebook account being "hacked", and her insinuating that it might be part of this political race and her threatening to release the recording of some meeting during the eruption that would make Marzo look bad or something? Or maybe other things that us outsiders to the district may not be aware of?
So much Facebook drama, but like they say - politics is just war by other means, or something, I guess.
