To be honest, I am looking forward to some reasonably priced real estate. Maybe if I am really really lucky it will be in Kapoho.
We share what we have already. I'd like to buy a cow but SB's says it would die of old age [
] instead of my purposes. Maybe someone will trade us beef for fixing their house. SB says he started here fixing little old ladies fences and gutters and he can always go back to it.We had already cancelled the kid's trip with his family to Hawaii that we were going to cover airfare. Ah, a peaceful Thanksgiving!
Here is an example of the silver lining we may not see yet:
Years ago a doctor found a lump where there should be no lumps. I was not taking it as seriously as she thought I should.[V]
She said - you will lose all your hair. I said and thats a bad thing as I have fought this curly hair ALL MY LIFE![8D]
She said - you may lose your breasts. I said and for the first time since I was 12 I can buy a blouse that fits![:I]
She said - you will get sick and lose weight. I said and so far doc you arent giving me a down side.[:p]
I feel that this down turn may be good for us all. Bring us back to reality. That a little hard work is more important that the size of your pension and keeps you healthier too. Maybe families are going to have to live together (tutus, parents and kids). Isnt that how it used to be?
Just some thoughts as I read the news on line.

1. little to no eating out if possible.
2. entertainment: we do not do that much any way.
3. buy in bulk.
4. buy local if possible.
5. garden as much as possible.
6. we're not allowed to raise chickens or any other farm animals
.7. move to the big island if possible to do number 6 above.
8. we share with the neighbors as much as possible even though they don't reciprocate.

Time to get advice from the folks who lived through the last depression. Did I say depression? Who of us baby boomers ever thought that could be possible again?

As My Grandmother said regarding living thru the depression, barter, form coops. Use it up, wear it out, make do. These are all guidelines I think are very applicable to the BI economy. Trade what you can grow, that others can't for the eggs & chickens you can't raise on your property. Trade your skills for those you don't have. And above all VOTE for local control of your fate.

I think everybody seems to have great ideas; becoming more self sustainable and self reliable, increasing the sense of community through
coops and general cooperation. Too bad it often takes crisis to get us in the swing-a-things. But whatever. I'm just happy to hear so many on the same page. As I said before: all we need is on the surface of the earth, or we'd have claws for digging!
No but seriously, I think everyone able to look at big pictures now will be able to see the futility in investing in things like telescopes and unstable science to answer our needs. We've always had everything we need, we just have yet to utilize it! I Give thanks to the Creator!
P.S. Vote yes on ballot #1, vote yes on personal liberties! Stop the misappropriation of our tax dollars!

I think everything is going to work out just fine with our economy. We need a swift kick in the butt once in a while to open up our eyes.
But just in case it doesn't work out....be prepared for China being Hawaii's new landlord.[
