We still need to know if it would be detrimental to whales, turtles, and other such precious national treasurers!!!

I say let them do an assesment which may only take a few months

According to the estimates it will take at least a year but most likely 2-3 years, so in 2010 we can easily say "Ferry? What ferry?"

Judge Joseph Cardoza only ordered an "assessment"...not an impact statement. An impact statement (you are correct) could take years....but the assessment (which I believe the state already started) could be finished as early as January or Febuary.

Local Channel KITV just announced that some of the superferry's workers were laid off.

Yes a EA is only required at this time. But there is strong possibility a more comprehensive EIS would have to be done also.

At this point, HSF can't be burning through 650,000 a week for 8 months. Hence why they
laid off the majority of their employees. If
nothing is done to resolved this, the HSF will be the next to leave.

It irritates me greatly that it seems any potential investor in this state has to confer with a tree hugger before they can invest here.

"this state has to confer with a tree hugger before they can invest here."

yeah let's just go back to the good ole days and let the robber barons do whatever they want to make money

(wonder if costco, wal mart, home depot had to hug a tree?)

My point is the pendulum has swung too far in favor of tree huggers in this state. I'm not advocating turning back the clock to the robber barons. There has be a middle ground here where everyone's interests are addressed.

Yeah, Those damn envirocommunists have ruined everything. Remember back in the good old days when the Monangahela River caught fire and burned for three weeks? Can't have fun like that anymore! The Raquett River used to be polluted with trout - thank God those coal fired power stations cleaned them trout out. Now why in hell did a good Republican President like Richard Nixon start that darn EPA conspiracy anyway? The world is one strange place alrighty.

I thought it was the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland?

How did it ever come down to this? Why wasn't the Enviormental Impact study done first before any ships were built and taxpayers money committed? I think it makes everyone look foolish. For sure both sides are playing games and the tax payers of Hawaii are the real losers because the Superferry will take their ships elsewhere and we got stuck with the bill and nothing to show for it.
