Andrew, received your email... let me know when your back in town.
One thing people don't realize here on the Big Island, is that we actually do have "Acid Rain" due to the Vog.
Were lucky here on the Hilo side of the lava flow.... PH levels on the other side are "sick".

I was in no way casting asparagus at you or your PH test personally, sorry you seem to have taken it that way. The Extension or UH will do a complete test, not just PH and NPK was my point. Free is always better, but sometimes you get what you pay for!

I didn't make it on Sunday, Saturday we got the "we're coming to inspect your apartment" letter from our landlord so we cleaned on Sunday instead. Not so much fun. Next time for sure and the sun will have slacked off on intensity a little by then.

If Andrew is not happy with his "free" results.... then I'm sure he will post it for all of Punaweb. Pretty tough to find "free assistance" sucks when someone gets knocked for offering it.
Seriously though Carol... I don't get offended on punaweb.... I try my best to help.
If I thought I could fill a need to another Punawebber w/out costs and saving a little money... then I offer my assistance.
If anyone else wants "Free" PH sampling... I can assist ... well sheesh... maybe I should go in business if I'm getting scrutinized for offering a free service to a punawebber [

I'm not a professional PH sampler or anything... I just have access to a tool that reads it... and if I can help a few minutes out of the day...then sheesh give me a break. [

I don't think a thick skin would really be needed here, as I already said the word "real" was not directed at you or your post. I was not scrutinizing, criticizing, or in any way commenting on your offer. It was not about you, it was about why someone might want a full soil report, not just PH.

U of H just past the Zoo.
$20 two weeks and they'll test for just about anything you want.
No appointment just don't go at lunch.
Tell them what type of crop your planting.
They will give you the results, recommended adjustments and the quantity per acre.
We use them all the time at work
Leave the home kits alone.

For the same twenty bucks you can go to Garden Exchange and buy a PH test tool. You stick a metal probe into the ground and read the numbers. 'Taint hard. My soil didn't read as acid as I expected it to, but then the fellow who gardened here before me put loads of oyster shell and opihi shell into the ground. Otherwise you can spread lime, drywall chunks, oyster shell, opihi shell, etc. around to lower the acidity.
