RE: Using Rumber for Fencing - Rob Tucker - 11-17-2008 It does not have better tensile (rigidity), which is why it is limited in fencing potentials. It's tensile strength is quite adequate for decking in normal framing situations. RE: Using Rumber for Fencing - tada - 11-17-2008 I hope to make a decision in couple years and can discuss how to brace this structure then. Other people want to make friends- I just want to make money. James Cramer RE: Using Rumber for Fencing - Rob Tucker - 11-18-2008 Rumber's best test result is compressive. Where #2 Doug Fir generally has a compressive strength of 1,000 psi Rumber has a compressive strength of 23,000 psi. This makes it ideal for plate material. In stick framing the bottom plate, where the wood rests on the concrete and carries the weight of the building, is where rot usually starts and crushing occurs. Rumber would be ideal in this application. No framers use it though. RE: Using Rumber for Fencing - Carey - 11-18-2008 OK. we are sold, so where can we get it (we only want a few pieces... for sillplate ... is it available????) RE: Using Rumber for Fencing - tada - 11-18-2008 Is that what they called the joist? Thanks. I thought I was going to have to get those 4x4 rumber!!
