RE: Murphy beds? - JWFITZ - 11-25-2008 Um, the piston types are less noisy. RE: Murphy beds? - Kelena - 11-25-2008 David, that's the one! On island, all put together, the wood breathes, closets to the side, and ready to go! RE: Murphy beds? - David M - 11-25-2008 Island Collection. The building on the left corner as you turn left and go up the hill to Costco. I dealt with Issac, an interesting fella. Besides what is in stock, you can custom order, supposedly 4-6 weeks lag. David Ninole Resident RE: Murphy beds? - gtill - 11-25-2008 I called them, and the one shown by link is the tropical model, yes it breathes. And it's only 2795$ installed, not in stock, but available in 1 day. Does not include drawers and shelves. Time for a 300$ kit, the bed pictured is a piston type, same as the kit! RE: Murphy beds? - Kelena - 11-25-2008 That's outrageous. The link below is the first Wall Bed (Murphy Bed) I bought. The company was "The Bedder Way". At the time the price installed and delivered was $2100. It was justifiable for me because it was installed in a space that would have been otherwise difficult to use. I got my money back and more when I sold the place (times were different! []). You can get the mechanism on E-Bay, as you know. Just have someone build a cabinet around that. I LOVED this bed. It was very comfortable (that depends on your mattress) and just flipped up out of the way to create a sitting area during the day that appeared bigger because of the mirror on the face of the cabinet. Ah, I loved that place. Shoulda never sold it. I think what you could do is have a plywood box with a bamboo, or what do they call that stuff "lauhala" cover (the bamboo weave). http://www.bedderway.com/store/detail.asp?ID=17&CATEGORY_ID=1 RE: Murphy beds? - mikewj - 11-25-2008 some info for gtill: I have some familiarity with Murphy beds and have found them to be a great way to get the most out of a small space. I've done some net surfing, and found the following site which looks like a good place to get the hardware and instructions to build one's own bed. I have also sent the vendor an e-mail requesting shipping costs to Pahoa. Hope this helps. http://www.wallbed.com/ RE: Murphy beds? - JWFITZ - 11-25-2008 If it's well built(ahem) and under 2500 bucks, it's a deal. Remember, it moves. If it's crappy, and the joints are shoddy, and all the rest, it will fall apart in 6 months. A Murphy Bed is a more highly engineered structure than your roof. There's at least 1000 bucks of materials in such a bed, if done right, and 2 weeks worth of custom cabinet work. A quality Murphy bed that won't fall apart will sell for close to 5 grand, for sure. 8 to 10 isn't uncommmon. You can cut that price by saving complexity, but you can't cut quality or it will simply fall apart, especially in this climate. I fix stuff too. If not mostly. See you soon. |
