RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - Andrew - 07-17-2006 Yikes. Well you've scarred me. 40 foot swell - NO THANKS. quote: RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - Carolann R - 07-17-2006 Bok! Bok! Andrew. LOL! (Seriously, I'm with you.) That's the reason they won't go into Hilo. Because the waters on the Northern and Eastern side of the Island are too rough. RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - mella l - 07-18-2006 loffelkopffl could you please post a link to the HJ article I couldn't find it. Thanks, Mella mella l RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - loffelkopffl - 07-18-2006 mella, http://www.hawaiiislandjournal.com/ RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - mella l - 07-18-2006 I read the article and found it complete and interesting. These ferrys are used in Europe and have proven to be safe, so either that can take 40 foot rollers better now or what I don't know. There is danger in thr channel between England and France. Time will tell. Didn't have to read between the lines re military use. When going to the journal site you must type superferry in the search to locate the current article. Thanks, Mella mella l RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - Lee G - 07-18-2006 I say it's nice to have other option's when traveling between the islands, right now it's fly or nothing. I find there are people here that are against anything new or any type of development even cloak themselves as enviormentalist's but really anti-growth. Let me say it here I don't want to pave paradise either but If a new shopping center in Puna will save traffic and $$$ driving to Hilo then I am for it. The SuperFerry why not give it a chance? RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - Kapohocat - 07-18-2006 Hey bryce! I no scared! I used to work on a 75' boat trapsing back and forth between Santa Barbara and San Nick. For everyone else, lets be positive a bit! Give these guys a chance! After being here 20 years, I'd like to see some changes besides the airlines that hold us hostage many years. -Cat RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - Carolann R - 08-22-2007 Bringing this one forward since now the Super Ferry is here. I think we won't actually have it available to us on the BI until next year. Checking out the website at http://www.hawaiisuperferry.com/ I guess I thought there would be one charge for your car, but now I see there is a charge for your car AND each passenger and that the charges of course are one way...this mode of transportation could get really expensive. Any thoughts? (Besides how much cheaper it would be with the airfare wars to fly and rent a car?) Oh yeah I did have one other thought. There are NO coquis on Kauai. How're they gonna keep them off the island? Carrie "All I can say about life is, Oh God, enjoy it." Bob Newhart Edited by - Carolann R on 08/22/2007 10:23:13 RE: Superferry Pros and Cons... - janeadams - 08-22-2007 Ah, Carolann! Two whole pages on this topic before someone mentions invasive species realty. Bless you for raising the topic. Even though they "say" they will be inspecting, I do not believe that they are going to be checking the wheel wells, engine compartments, etc. for critters and weed seeds. Kauai is right to fear coquis, but the BI has also been on the receiving end of a number of invasive pests from other other islands. Do the ferry, but leave the cars and delivery vans behind, please!
