Geese eat grass, but they can also "goose" folks, too.
My favorite string trimmer is a Makita because it is strong and light weight. There is also the Shindaiwa with the chain saw blade on it for the guinea/Napier/elephant grass. My other favorite weedwhacker, especially for tall grass and small shrubs is a sycthe.

I think Macuu has the right idea, put the money into a repair contract and buy the cheaper one.
Has anyone tried the propane ones that are out now? I was wondering how long they run on a cylinder.
Has anyone else had a problem with 2 cycle engines here losing rpms and nothing seems to help? They start up ok but just don't rev up well, I was thinking maybe a gasoline issue.

I suspect the methanol in the fuel, retaining water and gumming up the works with emulsified 2 stroke oil.
Drain the fuel after each use and run it till empty, is your best defense

You can buy gasoline without the ethanol additive. The gas station in Mountain View has it. It is best for small engines and boats.
The ethanol apparently damages the seals in small engines.

Here is an article on small engines and ethanol, best defense try not to use it. I will be getting my gas in Mountain View.
David you have had your trimmer for 3 years, do you use ethanol gas? I am only getting about a year on a trimmer with it.

We got a Honda because it felt the best, and so far are very pleased with it. The Honda guy said Honda has designed its motor to handle ethanol and not to worry about using it. Will let you know how that works out.

After talking in more detail to my husband he said the big selling point for him on the Honda was the fact that it is a 4 stroke engine, not a two. Uses less gas, is way quieter, and runs cleaner because you don't have to add oil to the gas.

Synthetic 2 cycle mix is recommended by some, I guess it mixes better with ethanol. I haven't tried finding any yet.

I would avoid all methanol in 2 strokes. Especially old fuel, guaranteed black death for the reed valves and ports when the fuel gels.
I tinker a lot, have for many years, have never seen so many pitted carbs , have never bought so many new ones as these are not repairable.
Once the methanol water mix gets to 'em and stuffs up the ports, stuff gets like epoxy, jets and drillings not salvageable

Since we only come over 4 times a year to slowly hand clear, we started by renting from HPM every time. When that got to be too much of a pain due to their being closed on Sundays, we went and bought the identical Shindaiwa from the Garden Exchange. We figured if it could survive the abuse of being in a rental fleet, it would last for us. Love it, and it tears through the ferns like butter.
