I'm in Hilo but I thought I'd test and share anyway. I also compared with Speakeasy.net and got very different results. I'm on Roadrunner.
Speedtest.net - 2.12 Mb/s download, 1Mb/s upload
Speaskeasy.net (also to the SF server) - 6.3 Mb/s download, 1Mb/s upload

Yup, mega bytes per second. We are all the way down in nanawale almost into Lava Tree park. Haven't used the card in HPP, but have used our Verizon phones there with no problems. Card is very reliable. our home is steel frame and we still get strong signal strength. Have the 5 Gig plan and have never come close to using all 5 Gig. Highest month was about 3 and that was with downloading a bunch of updates and photo's.

I think that's megabits per second, not that it makes much difference if you're satisfied with the speed. 5 Gig is a lot! Good to hear Verizon works, I'll contact them again, last time they told me I was out of luck if it didn't work.

I know nothing about Verizon but ATT cards do not work around Kehena but there is a guy that provides wireless high speed access down there. We have burning speed in Hilo, not fair at all to compare it to Puna. I like Noel am on RR through cable.

I used the verizon card... worked pretty well anywhere the phone did ... no dice on streaming video or audio however, I use both a lot so I was a little disappointed by that aspect.
may have the unit lying around in a drawer somewhere, a 720 if i remember right

Paul, We had the same concern and talked with the local Hilo office in person and got them to agree that we could cancel in the 1st 30 days if it didn't work. Been long enough i don't remember the name, but i think most of them in their can help. Just put your patience shoes on, speedy service in there it aint.

I have used http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ this for years while doing computer consulting.
Accurate and safe.
Nanawale, basic DSL, 2700 kbps download and 700kbps uploads, consistent.
Still, quite slow compared to what I used to have in Illinois - about 5x slower on both down and uploads.
