Sorry to hear that happens in Washington state. It certainly doesn't happen here. Catch and release means catch, neuter/spay shots vaccinations etc. and release where the capture happens, so the animal does not breed future generations but does live out it's natural life. It is a service done by our community and with donated assistance from our veterinary professionals. It helps limit the feral groups, diminish disease and starvation.

Hi everyone, and thanks for the ideas for affordable S/N for dogs and cats. Mella1, would love to find out as much as possible on how Washington State runs their program, and also about your vets doing it for free. Can you email me with more information or a p.o.c? Believe me all suggestions are welcomed. When we go before the County Council, we must have (many) plausible solutions. Advocats is doing a terrific job in bring in an Out of State vets(Kona side) to do a day of free S/N. Presently I'm checking with them on the How to's, and maybe we can also do the same for this side of the island.
Frank it was very nice meeting you, and no this is not a one person show. I've connected with other animal groups on this island, and they are helping obtaining signatures as well. They are familiar with the ongoing crisis of unwanted and overpopulation of dogs & cats and its easier for them to answer some of the questions that come up. As we try to answer as best as possible. Also, they are into animal rescue, feral cat location, foster animal housing, etc. But thanks again for your offer. I will again be out at Makuu this Sunday, and at Hilo farmers market on Sat. with a volunteer. Every signature counts like gold, and speaks for the animals that can not.
So again, please look for me its an important issue.

Frank, have you checked with Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary? They rescue animals everyday, and try to place them as well in to homes. Possibly they have suggestions on starting up your own rescue. Call 982-5110
Abby, will you join me this Sunday at Makuu for obtaining signatures, if you are free? If not, thats okay too. Mary will be helping me on Sat.

Hi Mella 1, a friend told me about it, said she read it in the paper. As it states, 27 million unwanted animals are given to shelters in the U.S. every year. That's why I feel so strongly about no cost or affordable Spay/Neuter here in Hawaii. If we can stop the unwanted animals from being born, then we can prevent the abuse which is associated with animal overpopulation.

Aug. 20th - Sat. From 0800-4pm. Fern Acres is having a Community Yard Sale. Fern Acres is located in Mt. View, off S. Kulani Road. Turn Right into Fern Acres and look for the 2nd street "Lehua" Drive to telephone pole #7. (Follow the signs.) 13 Families will have alot of good kind stuff. From plants, small furniture, tools, books, clothes, fresh eggs, the works! Plus, I'll be there with my petitions. So come on out and enjoy

www.theanimalrescue.site.com is an interesting site because it offers a variety of interest. From helping to feed an animal, to fund free mammograms, to help provide basic health service for children around the world, save endangered land as rainforest, etc., another site I'd like to share is www.congress.org you can write to your elected officials from the president to local officials. From anti-war to stay in war, or protect horses from slaughter, or stop canned Hunts. Have you checked out www.solutionsislandhawaii.com where you can check on the animal control bill, drugs & property concerns here on our island. And if you are interested in island plants with pictures, then go to www.botany.hawaii.edu with this site if you use yahoo, select Hawaiian Native Plants, UH Botany. If you use google, Welcome to University of Hawaii at Manoa Botany will open, on that page see E-Resources and select Native Hawaiian Plant, then Hawaiian Native Plant Genera. I'm not very good on the computer websites, possibly there is an easier way to get to that page. Anyway, enjoy.
