Mella, You can get coral booties (the have a thick pad on the bottom) or aqua shoes (a lot of kids wear these, bright neoprene and mesh uppers with rubber bottoms) at: WalMart, Itsu's (known for their shave ice) Hiranos, and many other locations.
Most of Hilo's bay front beaches have some areas that you can enter with out special footwear.
Of course many of the local kids just jump into the water with their slippah's, then slip them onto their hands for swimming.

Saturday weather is wicked but let's be patient. Does anyone have an easy-up shade they can bring?
If its really pouring we can always move up to theranch with the food/bbq...

Maybe I can just Scuba around in my own yard tomorrow instead of making the trip to Hilo??

You should be able to find all the info you need there. We would love to have you join our outings.
We meet at Richardson Park around 10 am the first Sunday of the month. (Tomorrow) Go down Rt 11 make a right at the first light past the the aiport and go down a few miles.
You will come to a park on the left with parking in front, an office and an orange life gaurd stand/
