Yep, Hawaii has invasives. Two legged ones come to mind. I don't get what this thread is about. Is it pointing to military personnel as the source of moving invasives in? Really?

RE: Military buldup and invasive species - kalama boy - 02-13-2011

The last I checked our volcanoes were not spewing out plants and animals.
Every plant animal and human on these islands is invasive

Wrong and ignorant, Kalama. I understand your military perspective but strongly disagree.
Yes the article does point to increased military also increasing the potential for invasives using Guam as a precedent.
I don't understand an attitude that allows ecological havoc in Hawaii. Do you, Kalama and DanielP really want to open the floodgates? Just think of what rabies would do here.

RE: Military buldup and invasive species - kalama boy - 02-13-2011

Try starting at the begining Dugger, the "floodgates" have been open since that first plant arrived.

RE: Military buldup and invasive species - dugger - 02-13-2011

Absolutely agree with you on that one. But the floodgates haven't opened all the way yet and they can be at least partially more closed. I'm firmly on the side of trying my best to protect the way of life we have here now. I'd have thought that at least this one subject would something on which we could all agree.

You also have to view the Hawaiian Islands in the perspective of time. The Big Island is only about 700,000 years old. Before man arrived it developed on a unique biological path. Those few species that beat the lottery and found their way here before man are considered to be native. Due to its isolation, Hawaii is unique in the world. Why not do all we can to protect what's left of that unique quality?

One has to admit, that having Syd Singer and dugger meet in a dark alley, would be interesting. [Big Grin]

Why do you have to say things like that? And what does it mean anyway?

mdd is a baiter.
He lies and is constantly down on new posters. He has brought up that you are a "newbee" so many times. that shows his insecurity.
He is impotent to do anything with words so he makes up lies and accuses folks of stuff they aren't doing.

Thanks Orchid. But I still don't know what that means. I would also love to hear Mark tell me why he would say those kind of things. Don't really understand.
