RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - spunky - 12-31-2010 quote: pog - I don't know(and given the number of vacation rentals around Kaloli Point I doubt it went after chickens). the dog seemed pretty friendly. Regardless of what the dog did or did not do in the past - it doesn't deserve to be run down in the street. the driver saw the dog. saw me and my dogs and deliberately hit the loose dog. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - james weatherford - 01-01-2011 This is from the Hawaii County Code: "Section 4-16. Duty upon striking animals, including dogs and cats. The driver of any vehicle which collides with or is involved in an accident with any animal, including dogs and cats, shall: (a) Stop, move the animal off the road, if possible, and render aid where necessary, and immediately (b) Have the animal’s owner located, or © Notify the police department or humane society. There shall be a penalty of not more than $50 for each violation of subsection (b) or © of this section." James Weatherford, Ph.D. 15-1888 Hialoa Hawaiian Paradise Park RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - dmbwest - 01-01-2011 James, Are the owners of the dog liable for damages to the vehicle ? aloha, pog RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - csgray - 01-01-2011 Not when the driver hit it deliberately in a situation where they could have avoided the impact. No matter how someone feels about dogs, to make a point of hitting a living being with a car is just cruel. If someone has an issue with a loose dog there are better, more humane, ways to deal with it than running it down and then driving away to leave the animal suffering. Cruelty to animals is the number one predictor for future sociopathic behavior. Carol RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - TheodoreJay - 01-01-2011 Well depends on the exact situation. If on a residential street and the driver had time to slow down then he's a dirtbag. However, if a pet runs out on the highway then swerving could get you and everyone in the car killed (my friend nearly got me killed that way once). RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - Sue Nomie - 01-01-2011 Can anyone describe the dog. We live in the area and I wonder if it is one that would happily greet me when I biked that area? I hope it was found and taken to a vet. My heart goes out to the owner. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - spunky - 01-03-2011 Hawaiideborah - it looks like you took part of the thread out of context. pog posted a comment suggesting that the dog may have gotten into some chickens and that's why the guy purposely hit it. My point was that in that area there are a lot of vacation rentals and thus the idea of lots of chickens running around is very small (Paradise ends shortly after Beach and turns into Paradise Ala Kai on which it seems every other home is a vacation rental all the way to Kaloli Point. The guy in the jeep turned from Beach onto Paradise and hit the dog between Beach and 1st on Paradise. Hope that clarifies for you. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - Tolleys - 01-04-2011 Spunky, FYI - There are more full-time residents on Paradise Ala Kai then vacation rentals and there are several wild chickens roaming in the Paradise/Beach/1st area. -From a permanent resident of Paradise Ala Kai Dr. Susan RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - hotinhawaii - 01-04-2011 spunky, please tell us that you have reported this to the police by now!
