RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - EightFingers - 01-27-2011 I'm also on both forums, I hope they aren't mutually exclusive. RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - oink - 01-27-2011 quote:I believe the software being used has changed so that may no longer be the case. I'm not sure so if you try it and your computer crashes don't blame me. Pua`a S. FL Big Islander to be. RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - Kelena - 01-27-2011 This is a voluntary community. People are free to come and go as they please. It's run by one guy and we are all guests. This is the original and I have found tons of help here, have found friends here and find that it is a way to stay in touch while I navigate toward my dream. Punaweb has the best writers (ahem), the best community spirit, and the best knowledge base of any Hawaiian site I know of. And you get it all in exchange for following a few simple rules based on civility and mutual respect. To the extent there has been a decline in quality it is directly attributable to certain people focusing on themselves, on their desire to shock and insult in the guise of not being "politically correct". On that subject, I find it very ironic that those who pride themselves on not being "politically correct" are the most politically correct of all. "Politically correct" used to mean that you were doctrinaire in an unthinking way and conformed yourself to a majoritarian view of what was right, regardless of the evidence. The group that prides itself on not being politically correct is the most doctrinaire and unthinking of all....and therefore the most politically correct. They think the politics of incivility is correct and insist that everyone accept them for their maverick-y ways. Good riddance. This site is about East Hawaii and is an online community devoted to the subject of East Hawaii, and to each other. Those who insist on making it about them and create entire threads of tit-for-tat detract from that sense of community. As for me, I'm getting my huli-huli chicken elsewhere... Aloha. RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - PaulW - 01-27-2011 This is the best forum I have ever been a member of. Thanks for keeping it Hawaii, everyone. Those who like to play the tedious partisan politics game, you now know where you can go to get it off your chest. RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - oink - 01-27-2011 Then give it a rest. Pua`a S. FL Big Islander to be. RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - Orchidlandguy - 01-27-2011 The title of this thread is "Good people leaving Punaweb". I only know of ONE person removed from punaweb and he is pretty far from good. He is divisive and it is fantastic to have him out. If others want to tell racist "jokes", spew hate towards lesbians and gays, degrade women, focus on sex, name call and attack punaweb members and measure your dick against others there is a web site for you run by this one guy who was kicked off punaweb. However, when you post here please leave the attacks and smears over there. Don't bring them to punaweb. What we need is a community that is tolerant and accepting of racial, sexual, gender and cultural differences and has the ability to have civil disagreements and accept when we disagree. We also need a place that is accepting of new folks either moving here or contemplating it. punaweb is that. RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - mdd7000 - 01-27-2011 quote:And yet you yourself are certainly not divisive, certainly you are tolerant of everyone and you are most certainly such an accepting person when someone disagrees with you. Look in the mirror - [B)] RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - mdd7000 - 01-27-2011 Your all of 34 posts as of now are full of what you claim to not want to see. Maybe the ratio is 90%+? In how many posts out of those 34 have you been helpful and/or civil? [?] RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - Orchidlandguy - 01-27-2011 quote: This is what is called BAITING. TODAY I made a statement that if anyone wants to be hateful and divisive they could take it to the other attack oriented site. There is a web site just for that. I am from this moment on going to know that if I want to trash others I can go do it at that site and not here. HOWEVER, I am reserve the right to disagree with others and question others on punaweb. That can be done without name calling and twisting meanings that are not what the person said. MDD7000, How about we both start today, and if we want to bait each other, we go to the other site and have at it? If we want to disagree in a respectful fashoin, we stay here. OK ? All I am pointing out is that there is a site for the the trolling, baiting and "jokes" that are negative. Go over there for that and leave punaweb to the civil exchanges. RE: Good people leaving Punaweb - csgray - 01-27-2011 I think this thread is misnamed. Kapohocat didn't leave Punaweb, she just joined another site a long time ago and has now started being active in it. That is her right and her choice, and it really isn't anyone's business where else someone chooses to post. Neither site requires people to pledge sole allegiance to it. There is a lot of overlap between the two, each offers different things to members; out of the 26 or so members at Punaonline, only two of them have been asked to leave Punaweb and many of them probably have never been Punaweb members. Punaonline has a different flavor and style, it appeals to some people and it is a good thing they have a place to interact with like minded folks. I will never join it because one of the moderators publicly disclosed a poster's ISP and employer information, which to me is so far over the line I don't ever want to be involved with a site where the moderator would abuse his power like that. Other people don't feel that way, which is fine for them. Maybe people could just try to interact with a little more patience and understanding, and a little less finger pointing and "calling out". Old school internet advice is "don't feed the trolls." I know I don't always resist the bait, but we could all try a little harder to just accept each other's differences and ignore inflammatory posts. Carol |
